I agree to an extent, in that I think managers talk too much anyway, but it's looking more and more likely that Sturridge's professionalism SHOULD be questioned. Publicly might be a mistake of course, but its clear that Klopp isn't as media savvy/trained as others. Not really an excuse, but certainly a factor

That said, and my memory isn't what it used to be, I can only recall one or two moments that made me wince slightly - the 'Daniel needs to learn what real pain is' (although he didn't say it as sinister as that sounds....) was too strong I felt. The part about him needing a period of X training sessions is possibly too honest, but it is an explanation, which is seemingly what he has to give

The guardian have this in nothing more than the rumour mill, the Echo has nothing outside the rumour mill, the BBC has nothing, Barrett has nothing, the Express article is not by Joyce and contines nothing more than

Express Sport understands the England international returned to training with the Reds this week for the first time in two months.

      But according to reports
In other words this trash reporting of a highly speculative nature which presumably had come off the back off some chatter from someone linked to Sturridge but not in an official capacity.

IF this were true I'd want him out, he's barely played since signing that big contract, the club has stood by him for two years of these injuries so if he's upset now I'd like him to **** off and leave. However, I don't buy this just yet, he could be a big player for us, I don't see us selling to rivals either.

John Cross is a pathetic excuse for a journalist so I couldn't give a **** what he says. About anyone. Ever. He's a 'Grade A' tool.

Sturridge should focus on getting fit and playing again. All this talking and he's likely to get a mouth injury which could keep him out for months...

And if there is any truth in the story, what's he going to do - move to another Prem or CL club and get injured there again, then start whinging about the criticism he gets from everyone. Churlish.

I guess my feeling is that if his professionalism is in question (I have no idea) then surely we don't want that to be confirmed in public as we want to protect the value of our asset.

Like I have said earlier this method of treatment may pay off in teh bigger picture.

To some extent I agree with dww that Klopp does seem to be calling into question his professionalism in public, which obviously won't go down well with Sturridge. I do imagine that these reported types of situation are most likely to crop up when you have an injured player and a new manager, the player not having been involved with the manager on a day to day basis must struggle to understand the way the manager works due to the limited numbers of interactions they must have, add to that the frustration of the injury on both sides it is easy to see how things can blow up.

The truth is though that none of us really know the situation, there have been no reports of further injuries (as far as I can recall) but he has been back in training for a while and is yet to get close to the matchday squad, so from the outside this looks odd, there have been various comments about this 'pre-season' he has been having but none of us know how long this was planned for or if it has dragged on longer than expected because of medical advice, because we don't want to rush him back, or because Sturridge is feeling something or because him and Klopp dont get on. The longer this goes on the more stories / theories etc are going to come out.

Obviously if Klopp wants Sturridge to play through the pain barrier and Sturridge isn't prepared to do that then there may be a problem, but if that were the case I don't think Klopp would have had him on this pre-season training schedule for so long, presumably he would have thrown him back into regular training. (Also IIRC since this 'pre-season' stuff I can't recall Klopp saying anything about playing through the pain barrier). To me the current/recent situation seems like a compromise between the reported position between player and manager. Obviously we need to see how things play out.
