Sadly, non-compete clauses are in effect in all areas of business these days, including for low-wage employees. Can't see how they are much different, except that when someone leaves their job, they can't get another one at all without being sued by their former employer.

If we are going to do a deal now if needs to be on a similar basis to what we did when we sold Torres, tell Barcelona we want however much it costs for us to get Lemar this window (if he is who we see as a replacement) plus x million otherwise no deal.

Personally I still wouldn't be happy with this but we are being backed into a corner and I would imagine this leaves us with 3 options, option 1 is the above, option 2 is to try and pacify everyone by agreeing a deal for the summer, option 3 is we play hardball and report Barcelona for tapping him up, they get a transfer ban and Coutinho gets pissed about not getting his dream move.

No, I wouldn't sell him. He will be very important for us between now and the end of the season. If a deal is to be agreed it needs to be similar to the Keita deal, whereby we agree a fee now, for him to leave at the end of the season.

In terms of replacement, he's not been linked, but I'd be looking to snap up, Nabil Fekir. I didn't think he'd come back to the same level before his injury but my gosh he's come back even stronger and better. That left foot of his, is pure magic.
