Gerrard doesn't have the legs to close down the opposition defenders, I think if he did he would have been played higher up the pitch by now.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostI wouldn't be adverse to seeing Gerrard move forward and Henderson taking up the deeper role.
I would't be surprised to see Allen given the current Gerrard role either and see him move forward.

No wonder he was in pain! Rodgers reveals that Coutinho's shoulder bone PUNCTURED his muscle and he will miss up to six weeks
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho was in so much pain against Swansea because his shoulder bone punctured his muscle.
Coutinho was fouled by Ashley Williams during the 2-2 draw on Monday and Rodgers expects him to be out of action for up to six weeks.
'He's only just having the operation today,' Rodgers said. 'The time scale is up to six weeks so we wouldn't anticipate any sooner.
'It's a blow as he's been in great form. It was the fall that did the damage. The challenge was clumsy and the bone came through the muscle. That was the pain and that's why the operation was needed.
'Losing him disrupted our balance. Hope he will return in great shape, it's just unfortunate. We have had a number of injuries at the same time and It's something we need to deal with. He is one of the best No 10s in the league, because of his passing.'
Despite being unbeaten and top of the Premier League after four games, Rodgers is sure that his side are only going to get better as the season progresses.
'There's a lot more to come from this side,' he said. ' We have made a good start and got 10 points. Last year we had 61 and were talking about the extra 10 points that may have got us into the Champions League.
'We have got them now but we still have to improve. I haven't even considered it (a title challenge), our expectancy is to improve as a team and look at the next game. After 10 games we will have a realistic idea of where we can be. We are in a good moment right now.'
Daniel Agger was a notable absentee in the Liverpool defence against Swansea with a rib injury and Rodgers was cautiously optimistic with his recovery, saying:'We'll see how he is in the next 24 hours. Hopefully he will be ok.'
It meant that Mamadou Sakho made his first Liverpool start and his new manager was impressed by the way he acquitted himself.
'It was a good first appearance,' he said. 'I thought he did well considering he hasn't played. He is strong, quick and aggressive and he can pass the ball.'
On Saturday Liverpool welcome Mauricio Pochettino's Southampton to Anfield and there is one man who Rodgers knows he needs to keep an eye on.
Rickie Lambert has given a good account of himself so far in his fledgling England career and proved on many occasions last season that he can produce big performances against the top sides.
Rodgers said: 'He is much more than an aerial threat. He has probably never had the recognition he has deserved over the years.
'He is one of the most accomplished players I have seen.'What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

He is a very young player and it is not usual to see players of that age struggle with consistency.Originally posted by danperkins View PostCoutinho is a hugely talented player but he has been pretty anonymous so far this season. Still a big loss for us regardless of his current form.
Also pressure to impress is completely different now than it was when he initialy joined.
He'll be fine when Suarez comes back as he will open things up for him but imo this year will be a season of ups and down and to me that is normal as he is still adjusting.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club
