These contracts suit all parties though, giving clubs more leverage in transfer fee requests.

The timing of the transfer request is not that great but overall one cannot fault his behavior here. It is becoming a trend now - one player becomes star, he wants to leave, he becomes villain. In the end, FSG with the help of their press briefing will end up painting the player as a villain.

The truth is every decent player wants to have a shot at playing at the highest level and winning trophies. We don't do that and they want to leave. One of the reasons for that is the way we recruit.

The recruitment operation this summer has been amateurish.The squad is nowhere ready for a full season including European games. Last season we barely scraped over the line with our substitute bench comprised of a majority of youth team players since February. It was a phenomenal effort by Klopp to get us over the line. If we end up qualifying for the later rounds of Champions League, it is going to be worse this time.

The sad part is the sale of Coutinho is going to be seen as a win for Edwards and his cohorts. Bought for 8 million, sold for > 100 million. He might even get a pay rise for that. Maybe we will stumble into another star player and the process will repeat itself.

I haven't read the last 6 pages of panic so maybe the point's been made, but (based on nothing more than a hunch) I don't sense Phil being awkward over this.

Sure he'll be unhappy and he may not be at his best for a few weeks but I don't see a sulky refusal to play coming from him.

Keep saying it Coutinho is worth at least £120m before add-ons (maybe as much as £150m with add-ons). If they get to that I would talk, if not I wouldn't and that is what I would explain to Coutinho

Forget the add-ons. I would ask some number close to 150 million. Barcelona board are also incredibly unpopular now with Madrid winning 2 CL, La Liga, and having an overall better squad. They need a signing desperately to satisfy their fans. If we are selling Coutinho, we should use their desperation too.

what good is that though? Klopp won't buy a plan b or plan c player and the Plan a's dont want to come!

I support the badge - not the owners or players or manager.The owners and personnel come and go.
