Worst case scenario is we sell him on the last day of the window and we're given the old 'we had no time to replace him' argument. Unfortunately for us, I wouldn't totally rule that out.

This is a bigger issue than Cou wanting out.

Every time we're seemingly on the cusp of big things we go straight back to square one.

We have CL for the first time in years, Klopp and a decent squad, expanded stadium and the revenue that comes with it.

We should have really pushed on this summer, I think we all wanted at least 3 or 4 quality signings in...Salah, Solanke and Robertson. Underwhelming is an understatement. Defence and midfield has not been addressed at all, despite supposedly having a huge warchest to spend.

Here we are, 3 weeks before the close of the window and a day before the start of the season and we're arguing over whether it's best to let out best player leave. I'm tired of it.

Same **** time and time again. One poxy league cup in 7 years and our worst run since the 1950s when it comes to honours won.

FSG have no interest in winning trophies as long as their bottom line is healthy. That is success to them. Terrible transfer window yet again under them.

      FFS just seen this thread

I really want us to stand firm and tell Barcelona where to go (he will end up there eventually) but can't afford to mess about with it being a WC year.

Most likely thing though is we end up selling him unfortunately. If we are going to sell we need to make sure it is not a penny less than £120m (upfront) plus add ons.

Problem is we've dicked about in this transfer window, if we do end up selling him everyone we try to buy a player from will put the price up because of the cash burning a hole in our pockets
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I have no faith that FSG will stump up the cash if he is sold. We'll get the old excuses again.

Why? How much have they taken out of the club? Zero, isnt it?

You are attributing malice where the evidence does not point to this. It pure incompetence.

Otherwise Coutinho would have been sold at the start of the window, and FSG wouldnt have bothered with the preemtive "not for sale" yesterday.

Ask yourself why they would do the things you think they are doing? Because apart from our transfer history, I think they have run thr club better than any of our previous owners upto and including David Moores.

They have not, to my mind, done a single thing to show they dont have the best interests of the club at heart. They played hardball with Suarez up until the point he made it imposdible to stay, and sacked managers very quickly if they have not performed.

Obviously the transfer problem is a huge thing, but its not like they have not tried to make the team amazing for this season.

We still have time for them to salvage this, and I do agree they ****ing owe us at this stage.

we must have strong grounds for tapping up? As its most likely all the reports of terms agreed weeks ago are probably true.

Coutinho is a great player but if he goes so be it

One thing for me is the fee. Barcelona are trying our trick and trying to get the player on the cheap

Keep saying it Coutinho is worth at least £120m before add-ons (maybe as much as £150m with add-ons). If they get to that I would talk, if not I wouldn't and that is what I would explain to Coutinho

Agreed mate, if he stays I hope he behaves but if he goes then que sera sera.

They've shown zero ambition on the pitch but can't wait to announce the next sponsorship agreement. One league cup in seven years under them and summer after summer spending **** all or selling our best players to fund any purchases and then coming out with excuses and apologies.

Superb window , well done fsg , outdone yourselves
A couple of weeks to show some ambition and I don't mean using the cou money as a war chest

Philippe Coutinho would do 'whatever it takes' to sign for Barcelona, says Guillem Balague

Guillem Balague believes Philippe Coutinho’s desire to move to Barcelona has pushed him to clash with Liverpool even though he "tried his best" not to reach this situation.

Liverpool released a statement on Friday morning insisting Coutinho will not be sold this summer, but just hours later, Coutinho handed in a transfer request, according to Sky sources, and Balague explained Coutinho has made his mind up, making his stay in Liverpool very difficult indeed.

"After Neymar went, and not before, Barcelona identified Philippe Coutinho as a replacement. They reached a personal agreement with his agent. Since then, for the last two to three weeks, Coutinho has tried to make Liverpool understand that his dream is to play for Barcelona. He has been a Barcelona fan for a while, has become really good friends with Luis Suarez and he wants to move to the Camp Nou.

"He has behaved very well, professionally, something admitted by the club itself, but something happened today that pushed him over the edge.

"After Liverpool rejected the two offers from Barcelona, I have the impression that Coutinho felt another one may just make it. But, while he waited, he is feeling very agitated, according to sources in Brazil close to the player, despite the fact Barcelona were keeping their calmness, realising that they had to be patient with the whole saga due to its complexities.

"Then, a little bit out of the blue, Liverpool decide they want to put out there that they don't want to sell him, and I feel that put him over the edge. He did not expect that, and he has snapped.

"Coutinho is a nice guy, everyone who works with him knows that, but he has got in his mind that he wants to be a Barcelona player this summer and the disappointment of the Liverpool stand was so big that he reacted to it in the strongest way possible allowed to a player. He now "would do whatever it takes" to make the move possible, according to the same sources.

"Normally when a transfer request has been handed in, with one submitted now in Melwood, clubs know that, sooner or later, the player is going to go. Whether it is this summer or the next summer after their unrest, players tend to get what they want. At that point, it really becomes a matter of money. I think that is what Coutinho thought it was going to happen this summer. He did not expect Liverpool to close the doors the way they have.

"For Liverpool, it has logically become a football issue but also of pride, especially from Jurgen Klopp. Klopp wanted to show his authority by keeping the player - selling Coutinho gives a sign of weakness and makes the team worse. He also realises it is a bit late in the transfer window to replace him. But does it make sense to keep someone who does not want to stay and who will be sold for a higher fee that a 'normal' market situation would price him?

"What is interesting is that Coutinho and Klopp have not had the best of relationships and more and more on that will come out in the next days. Coutinho has felt he has been placed all over the park, that he has been substituted a lot, and that Klopp hasn't used him to the best of his strengths.

"I know that sounds like a typical story of unrest, especially after a transfer request, but I am assured Coutinho is unhappy that he hasn't been able to settle in a position and he has not finished as many games as he would like to finish. Excuses, many would say and I am sure that Liverpool would add, and rightly so, that is what happens in football, and managers can put players where they want, but I am expressing the feeling from the player who obviously wants to go to Barcelona but also who was not completely happy with how things are going at his club.

"What a difficult position for the club. Liverpool would lose a massive asset should he leave, but what can a club do when a player makes his situation so clear? I know the transfer request doesn't force anyone to do anything, but it is difficult to see how Liverpool can manage to change Coutinho's mind."

They are nowhere nearly as clever as they think they are at least w/r/t football/soccer.

So many contradictions in that Sky article

Barca identified Couthino as their target AFTER the Neymar went to PSG.......

His agent agreed personal terms 3 weeks ago..
