There is no benefit in selling*him now. Fair enough he wants to leave, after all he has given us 5 years service and won sweet fa. But the timing is all wrong. It's too much of a disruption and there is no guarantee his replacement will settle in straight away. Do you think City, Utd, Chelsea etc would sell their best player mid-season regardless of whether they wanted to leave? Absolutely not! We need*to show some ambition and act like the big club we are. Sell him and you can almost guarantee it'll be Salah next, and then Mane. It needs to stop.

All depends on the situation, it's pretty normal for clubs to allow contract negotiation before a deal is done if it's likely.
