If we don't deliver good enough results then the manager can't blame anyone else than himself.

One of the reasons to why so many of us miss Rafa is because he never got a fair chance to win the league.

It is a very tough task to win the league next season but not impossible.

The key this summer will be to keep Suarez. He is one of the best players in the world and players will IMO want to join us because of that reason, to play together in the same team as Suarez.

They know as long as he play we can win against any team in the league, home and away.
The ownership issue did become a problem but that season we had a very good side, much better than the one we have now. A good summer and we'd still be struggling to be anywhere near that side to be honest.

    Reina - In form
    A better back 4
Alonso, Mascherano and Gerrard in his pomp
    Torres scoring goals for fun

We only really lacked a left winger, Kuyt on the right chipped in with his fair share of goals.

Another three years of rebuilding, five years of solid regular top four, then two years to win the PL. In my opinion anyway.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it wasn't built by the apprentice either.

I thought Reira complimented our team well and was excellent at helping us control games and keep possession. The amount of games Torres missed and to a lesser extent Gerrard was our biggest downfall IMO.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Riera was a good signing and Benayoun was a cracking squad player at the time.

The 2008-09 team is still stronger than our current one but with a couple of good signings in the summer we should be well in contention for 4th next season.

Couldn't the rebuilding be incorporated to the regular challenges for the top four? As in, challenge next year hope to achieve the next, therefore that would be three years into Rodgers' tenure?

Forgot about Benni. Scored in 7 different matches, compared to Torres 9 matches, so hardly that much of a weak link.

We were the best side in the league but didn't had the best squad in the league.

If we would have had good owners back then that would have backed the manager every season then players like Aguero, Simao, Alves, Barry, Vidic to name a few would most probably played for us even before the season we finished second.

Then you can add that Rafa would have been able to build up the academy from his first season.

Who knows what stars that would be playing for us now?

But they didn't and we know the fall out from it all, you said he was never given the chance - he was.

It's all history now anyway and we have to look to the future which we seem to be doing

Think it'll come down to the trial and error method to be honest. Sign players, sack them off after a year or so if they're **** (Charlie Adam), and then get the squad you want, from centre back to centre forward, and THEN challenge. If you rebuild while challenging, there's a good chance it'll go tits up. Look at the inconsistency we've suffered this season while trying to get every cup going. I think, this is just me mind, that Rodgers needs to do what he can for the remainder of the season, whether it be fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh, get FSG to seriously back him in the summer for a few worldies, then start from scratch next season where it'll be entirely his own squad. He got left with a few **** players, so this summer is the perfect opportunity to get the squad HE wants. Nobody to blame but himself if it goes wrong then. Too many people still blame Kenny for some of our squad playing like a pub side.
To be honest, as long as he sells Shelvey, I'll be happy.
