Having had the long journey back from the Emirates stadium i've finally had a little time to chill and reflect a little more on the game in a more calm manner.
First of all i'd just like to say- beautiful stadium, will definately go again.
That was the most pleasant thing of the day so on to the game.
First half we were fine, absolutely fine until they scored. Dare I even say, slightly the better side. Typical Arsenal goal though and sadly enough it was a typical Liverpool response. Heads down (Gerrards naturally was the first to drop) and not a soddin' clue what to do with or without the ball once this minor (turned out to be major) setback had occured.
What annoyed me the most about the first half was that even though we had the ball for large periods we never ever really looked to do anything with it. A Gooner who my dad spoke to afterwards declared he was really dissapointed with Alonso. Everything he did saw the ball go sideways or back a couple of yards.
However with Rafa's bizzare team selection there was never any attacking outlet for Xabi to use and that is something we must work on. Alonso has a very special ability to land the ball anywhre on the pitch he wants to but with no one in attack with any pace on the pitch and no one actually offering that much width Alonso is almost surpless to requirements.
Second half was just embarressing. Kolo Toure (yes thats right kolo f*cking toure) of all people managed to not only burst through our defence but show more composure in front of goal than any of our 25millions pounds worth of strike force has managed to show all season- that is a huge worry.
Benitez got his team selection wrong today and that is what burried us in the 2nd half.
Daniel agger NEEDED to play today. He's a class act, composed on the ball and he's also very QUICK. Sami will win balls in the air all day thats what he does but he's never going to stop someone coming at him with pace. Now seeing how Arsenal haven't actually kicked the ball long at any point while Wenger has been there I don't understand why Agger didn't play- it was basic common sense, something Rafa seems to be lacking recently.
I was going to come on here and berate Gerrard but i'm not. EVERYONE knows how sh!te he was so there's no point me further underlining it. One thing I will say, somethings clearly not right mentally and if he's not in the right frame of mind he shouldn't be near the squad, He shoudn't be near the club. He needs to get himself right or Liverpool should make a cover for him and say he's not fit because having in the side at the moment means we are down to ten men before we begin. If the opposition are really lucky and Gonzalez starts then we're down to nine.
Their third goal was absolutely cringe worthy and what made it worse- it was Gallas.
Next week it's Boro away and we badly need the points- Unfortunatly having witnessed both Birmingham away on wednesday night and today combined with our record at the riverside I can only see another grim day!
YNWA- to the rest of the travellin reds today, as fans we didn't deserve that!
