So who would you get in if Rafa wasn't in charge?

I'm curious as **** to know

Getting rid of a manager after only 2 years is not the answer. I'm not sure what the answer is in all fairness and if anyone says they reckon they do then I suggest they get off this site and go and apply for a job with the club cos they're obviously exactly what we need!

One thing that does worry me is the amount of sentimentality we have at our club. The fans are the guilty party in this. Strong attachments to certain players because they've done well in the past and/or are local lads. People were sticking up for Warnock last week ffs! I don't care who thses players are if they're not good enough they should be dropped. "Oh but we can't drop Carra!" - Yes we ****ing can!

"Oh won't it be sad moving from Anfield?!" - so what if it is?

"Oh won't it be dreadful if Moores flogs us to a Russian billionaire?" - not when we've got Number 19 proudly displayed it won't be.

We're all too ****in sentimental - it's a football club not your favourite child!

(New players - they get a year to prove themselves and then they're out as far as I'm concerned.)

Carragher's been woeful so far this season.

I'd play Agger and Sami in the next game.

'Our squad needed a complete overhaul'...... Simply not true.

Gerrard, Carragher, Hamann, Hyppia, Riise, Finnan, Baros, Cisse, Dudek...

That squad won us the Champions league and had genuine quality. Sure, changes needed to be made, but Rafa has spunked money on dozens of 'possibilities' when he should of been aiming for a handful of first team regulars.

We're currently playing football as bad as anything I saw under Houllier.

We've got no God given right to finish fourth either.

            ok of those players......
Hammann - wanted regular football and would u play him instead of momo
Cisse - - We qualified for champs league.....and we have fowler to score in no mark games
            Finnan - not attacking enough
            Riise- jury out....great shot
Baros - was this a joke?????
            Dudek - see above

so we could win the league with these ....I am not in the Rafa Can do No wrong brigade.....but you my friend mr jonny negative are in the Rafa can do no right brigade.

If you cant support your team in a crisis .....certainly wouldnt want you in the trenches with me!

I was there yesterday, so quite clearly I can support a club in crisis.

Yesterday, after spending 45 quid on a ticket, when I was singing YNWA at 3-0 down in the 90th minute against a big rival, looking at a ****e, clueless team playing wank football, as far away from winning the title as ever.

That was the last time I actually 'supported' Liverpool.

So get a ****ing grip and stop trying to imply I'm any less of a fan than yourself just because I'm being realistic.

I said at the beginning of the season that we wouldn't win the championship, it amazes me that people actually think we can compete with the squad and money we have. It's not a difficult equation to comprehend. 80 million sounds a lot but it's not when you compare it to chelski and utd. We're 4 points of 3 rd place believe it or not and that's actually closer than we were this time last year. We'll be fighting it out with arsenal - a club of similar financial assets - at the end of the season. We'll probably get to the quarter finals of the champions league and win one of the domestic cups. We will not, anytime soon, compete for the championship, whoever is put in charge of the team.

I know realism isn't rampant on football message boards, but there you have it. There is only one possibility to compete realistically and that's massive investment. And even that doesn't gurantee instant success. Ask ranieri.

Arsenal have spent far, far less than us the past ten years and have picked up league titles Tom.

That blows your half baked little theory into ashes, doesn't it ?

We've spent, wait for it....over 200 million pounds in the past seven years!

This is MORE THAN ENOUGH to challenge for the title on a regular basis.

We're 9th in the table, for Christ's sake.

wasn't a dig at you but the general if he doesn't perform day one and make 20 goals he's ****e attitude which seems to be the norm these days.

its easy for wingers to go missing, don't give them the ball

Thanks for kind comments. I think that if you look european-wide almost all the recent championship winners have been the clubs with the highest income. Do you seriously believe that we can compete with chelski who have spent HALF A BILLION quid over 4 years compared to 200 million over 7. Show me the miracle worker that can. Also I'd like to see the comparative breakdown of arsenal spend compared to LFC spend over the time scale. You haven't provided the figurse

And by the way when was the last time arsenal won the league? Going on your arguments arsenal should have sacked wenger this year for not winning the championship for 5 years. The reason arsenal are such a well-developed team is that they've backed their manager with a decent amount of time. Kind of blows your "half-baked" arguments about Benitez out of the water dontcha think?

Brilliant post. The same goes for the ludicrous deification of the plainly past-it Fowler - my personal bugbear. A lot of our fans seem to live in a fantasy world where we can stay at Anfield, not have a huge injection of cash, play a team mostly of locally-born players and expect to be successful at the highest level. It's not going to happen; we have to move forwards
