    other.

by the time stevie is ready to step down it could be another two or three years away.
by that time there might be very few, if any, of that list left with us, and a couple of the new blood might be better prospects to be the future captain.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Not sure about Lucas, a bit too prone to injury, would like to see Reina get it - providing he sticks around

Pretty much goes without saying really.
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Agger hasn't been great at organising the defence which gives me reservations about being the best choice for the captain.

Eh? He barely had an injury before he did his ACL. He picked up one since because he was rushed back, but he's hardly injury prone.

Nope, although I knew someone would pick up on that

For me he is just the best suitable candidate we have right now compared to what I view as captain material. Might well be different in 2-3 years time.

My second candidate was Pepe, but he doesn't seem quite as dedicated to the club right now, which ruled him out. Unlike many I don't see Lucas as great captain material.

Suarez I can't make up my mind regarding, he would defo need to set a better example in some areas IMO than he does now, although he has improved a lot recently. Might be more confident in him as captain in the future

If you'd asked me a few months back I would have said Agger too. But I have my doubts now. I think his ability to lead and organise have to be questioned recently.

Lucas seems an option, but is he too quiet?

I wouldn't heap that kind of responsibility on Suarez personally.

Again Reina would be a candidate but will he even be there then? I'm not sure.

I don't think we have any really outstanding candiates right now to be honest, which is why I think we struggle a touch. It's why we let games we should win slip us by in defeat. We lack enough real leaders, inspirational players who can boss a game and steady the ship when required.

A few years ago we had captain material all over the pitch. Reina, Carragher, Hyypia, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard. We're a long way from that now unfortunately and it's an area that needs to be addressed.

I've put other. Because I think he'll be around for another 2/3 seasons and Reina, Suarez and even Agger might be gone by then. Lucas still needs to get over this injury fully, but if he does then he's at the head of the list for me.

Suarez, just because it would piss the press off.

I think the skipper should be an outfield player, so that rules out Reina. Lucas is too mild mannered and I don't think Suarez is level-headed enough, but if he was made skipper and did become level-headed I think losing an edginess would detract from his game.

Agger has all the attributes required.

If we don't make rapid progression Suarez won't be here when stevie retires, but if he is then I'd pick him

I've voted other, because I don't rate Agger or Reina as captain material, and I think Lucas is a strong head on the pitch and a guide off it, possibly a vice-captain.

I think we need someone. Ashley Williams perhaps? (Leaves thread quickly).

Think it'll come down to Suarez and Agger. Suarez was captain for Ajax, but Agger is Denmark captain. To follow on from Stevie, you need a bloke with experience bossing a side. Saying that, Skrtel is the captain of Slovakia as well. We've got a lot of players who are easily captain material, Johnno would be one as well. Personally, I think it'll have to be one of the defenders who can scream orders from the back.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it wasn't built by the apprentice either.

It's hard to say really, Gerrard could be around for 4 or 5 years yet, who knows where we will be as a team then, could well be Eriksen as our captain. .

If he retired at the end of this season I'd be inclined to say Agger, but I reckon it would go to Pepe.
