Cheltenham is over. Gibbo is back.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

i was really confident going into the game because i thought that we had turned a corner with that win against spurs.
i don't think it's down to a lack of preparation because twice during the week different coaching members stressed the importance of taking each game at a time and preparing for it.
our defense needs some massive rebuilding this summer. we're a bunch of headless chicken who scare away from any sort of physical confrontation.
jones can't catch a ball. enrique is either a complete liabilty who can't pass or he's outstanding. same for johnson. agger can't organise the bunch and isn't faultless himself. skrtel does everything he can to look mean and aggressive but he's a pushover with little positional sense.
the way we make ordinary teams look great because we simple don't turn up pisses me off all the way. the third goal where we made an average player look like messi made me want to smash my laptop into the telly.

I wasn't confident. The whole season has been thus. We **** ourselves as soon as there is mention of success. It's a mentality problem and has been all year. It won't be solved until the summer.

Rodgers cost us the game. Starting Allen instead of Lucas was a mega big mistake.

The problem is that it isn't exactly the first time he made a big mistake like that. Without Lucas we have no balance at all in midfield.

Allen is his baby...... BR is desperate for him to do well and justify his huge transfer fee and place in the side, but it is to the downfall of the team...and the defence can all leave as well...wonder if man city still want Agger ? and zenit want skrtel

lucas came on and we didn't play much better then either, did we?
i agree allen was poor but so were almost all of our players.
we got again bullied into mistakes and put under pressure because we were not up for it mentally. allen is the main scapegoat at the moment but most of our players lack focus and guts in games like this.

                  to all of this.

Except after years of the same, I can't imagine a time when it will ever be solved.

Allen should be able to cope with Southampton. He wasn't able to cope at all and was overrun all the first half. Not that many others played well either, but he stood out as the least able.

Insofar as the team had being doing well recently until this game, you could argue that breaking up a winning team was a mistake. But teams at this level have squads for a reason, and managers have to consider a lot of things when selecting a side.

So to say that Rodgers 'cost us the game' in such black and white terms shows no appreciation for the requirements of the game at the top level. Yes, in hindsight Allen was not the right choice. But any Liverpool side should not be overrun by Southampton no matter who is selected.

Rodgers hauled him off at half time and recognised that the plan wasn't working. Things didn't really improve thereafter though, so the overall problem was a wider one. The mentality was wrong, the team was afraid. As they have been so many times since 2010 or thereabouts.

Got it wrong in picking Allen? Yes. Cost us the game? No.

It would have been a bigger mistake if Lucas got injured while playing if he wasnt 100% fit due to last weeks 'niggle' Although Henderson should be way in front of Allen in the pecking order at this moment of time.

We lost due to our Mentality and I wouldn't particularly blame it on selection. Earlier in the season we seemed to be able to dispatch the poorer teams with efficient performances, Yesterday we turned up and thought we had allready won. We were shocking and we missed Carra to never thought i would say that this season!!

Hopefully we will buy players of strong mental character. We lack them big time. Who of the current crop fall into that category. Lucas. Suarez. Carra. Thats about it

Add Gerrard to that list but after over a decade of driving this team when we have been on the ropes, I can forgive him the odd bad game.

I think Rodgers should go all out to keep Carragher for another season.....considering we will potentially be buying 3 new centre backs otherwise.....we could end up like Newcastle u der Keegan next season otherwise.... I would like some experience in the back to be honest.....I don't think somebody like Lescott would be the worst signing in the world.....

Rodgers came out and said something along the lines of "we have arguably the best 2 full backs in the league" - on their day, yes we do.......but sometimes they are the ****in worst!!! I think we would all prefer players that give 7 out of 10 every week - a la Steve Finnan (can't remember the last time we had a left back like that - probably the time Carragher played at LB under GED)

We're mentally weak and that's been the case for a good while.
