Speedy was brought in as back up for Kewell/Zenden but has been used more for obvious reasons. 2 years down the line he'll be good enough.

Pennant was 2nd/3rd choice. And also doesn't start every week.

Bellamy is a dissapointment.

Our defencive record shows that the players we have are more then good enough. (We should still keep adding players to increase competition)

In attack we have Gerrard, Speedy and Bellers who are all very pacy players. ( Would be nice to have one more though)

So our problem is clearly not lack of pace but inability to use it.

you need pace at the back, and we dont have it. hence when our offside trap is broken we are screwed. Our full backs dont have the pace to over lap.

i'm not saying buy a player with pace but no skill. but you cant play football like utd and arsenal without pace in your team throughout.

it gives you that extra fizz with attacking with the movement etc....

We won the CL with "no pace", we won teh FA cup with "no pace", our defencive record last season is awsome, with "no pace".

The pace of our players has nothing to do with anything, pace is simply a nice thing to have in a team and we have plenty.

Another thing thatd be nice to have is defenders that can score.

Hyypia has shown on the odd occasion that he can have a crack and is potentially dangerous from a corner. Riise is good for a couple of long range efforts. But thats it. Carra is useless at shooting. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if he and finnan moved forward and attacked with the team. They are so one dimensional. Maybe that makes them easier to play against, cos they're all so predictable.

Personally I'd be happy If we replaced our whole back line except for Riise and Agger. Carra is a good squad player but isn't as good as his peers of King, Ferdinand, Terry, Campbell.... The thing he does have in abundance is heart, which im not discounting, its a valuable asset. I just don't believe he has the ability to match it with talent.

I think we have adequate pace with Pennant, Bellamy, Gerrard and Gonzales from the middle of the pitch. Its the back four where we desperately need pace, and a couple of pacey defenders who are happy with the ball at there feet would make all the difference.

Its evident this season where we're just not countering from corners in our own half. We're sat too deep with maybe one up front and as soon as he gets the ball there's no support.

Saying that, we're still well short of quality.
