But forget the world cup for a moment, we played the last match of 2004/5 (champions league final), started 2005/6 incredibly early (6 champions league qualifiers) and got right to the FA cup final a few weeks before the world cup and LAST season I think most people will agree, we didn't really have a large squad. For those players who didn't go to the world cup -Finan (in his thirties) Sami(getting on a bit), Riise(had an injury prone start to the season), Momo (still playing well) that's it out of our regular starters. Then we've had a few new signings who need to settle in, it's much easier to settle into a team which is playing well and playing poor teams, we haven't had that luxury.Originally posted by Red_PoloWe've got a big squad and have quite a few players who didn't even go to the world cup. Other teams had plenty of players at the world cup too. This may be a small part of the reason but it is nowhere near being a major factor imo.
When was the last time our players had a decent injury free break?Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Thierry is always a good winner - thoughtfully he sometimes even supplies excuses for the opponents as to why Arsenal were able to take them apart so easily.Originally posted by kurtangle01On sky yesterday Thierry Henry done an interview where he said that no player who had a long hard season and played in the world cup afterwards is performing to their usual standards. Perhaps he had a point.
I'm sure he's glad that none of the Arsenal players were at the World Cup - because they may have had to endure a couple of dire away performances like our LFC World cup stars eh?

Surely you can see Arsenal didn't play as many games as we did last season.Originally posted by Depth_ChargeThierry is always a good winner - thoughtfully he sometimes even supplies excuses for the opponents as to why Arsenal were able to take them apart so easily.

Can't be much in it as they played a fair few - a couple of games either way won't make much difference. Henry, along with one or two others, made it to the Final of the World cup and the European Cup - he played plenty of games.
We've been rotating our squad to give our players time to recover, so we can't keep using that as an excuse until the end of the season can we?

How many points are Arsenal ahead of us though, 4 points and a game? They haven't played the teams we've played.Originally posted by Depth_ChargeCan't be much in it as they played a fair few - a couple of games either way won't make much difference. I think it's a major issue but like I said it's not an excuse, it's just my little theory. It's not just the number of games, it's the period of time last season was spread over. There has been no sustained recovery period and i think it's the reason we are not able to find that extra gear needed when you are up against it away from home.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

We'll be playing away games all season - if we are not able to find that extra gear needed when we are up against it away from home then quite frankly - we are f*cked.
I really don't think this is the reason that we can't get a point away from home - it may be a factor, but you have to admit we look fit enough at Anfield.

Actually Henry made that statement in an interview before the game.Originally posted by Depth_ChargeThierry is always a good winner - thoughtfully he sometimes even supplies excuses for the opponents as to why Arsenal were able to take them apart so easily.
