aye, at the game I was furious with mig for not being ready, but looking at the replay I don't think he would have saved it anyway and then there is a bit of an argument that should the wall have done more?

Why would he blow so soon, without us setting a wall up; rather than wait for all that to happen?
He did mark ten yards and the wall was sufficiently set up for a free kick of that distance.

There was enough of a delay also. I watched it about five times and i've still no clue as to what Mignolet was doing. Everyone was high enough.

A complete lack of awareness not for the first and certainly not for the last time.

did the ref spray a mark for the ball and then pace out ten yards for a wall?

        somehow ive missed that?

          Yes he did.

He said he didn't hear the ref blow the whistle.

Yes - Mig did NT, what was expected at the Chelski-goal, but he would never have had it, had he been ready.

But - he did take a few low crosses from the right (from Moses) and did react fast to the cheaky ball, where Luiz almost made contact - AND did take the penalty.

In this kind of match, you have to cry for the spilled milk (goal), but also to credit, what was OK.

Mig looked foolish when the kick was taken but he was still covering the area of the goal he was supposed to be in. Not sure what people expected him to do? Set up a wall covering the near post then stand on the near post himself?

It was the wall's job to be alert of the whistle and the kicker. Had Hendo jumped we might not be discussing this. Might as well not have had a wall with the way that shot was so low.

I tell you what though - what a save for the penalty.

Should have been alert for the free kick zero excuses but kind of made up for it with the pen of save. He isn't good enough to be first choice keeper for LFC and Karius is worse. We need better.

It's redundant. The GK need to be set before the ref blows the whistle.

The whistle is to inform the player he can take the free kick. It was great opportunism from Luiz though, who had a great all round game i thought. I never thought he'd be a great CB but he has turned into one.

I'm not sure I get your point, but there's not much point in labouring it further.

it was a bit far out to be having a wall set up for a free kick.
the goalie [if hes awake] sets the wall up and then goes and stands where he can just about see the ball, but then leaves half of the goal exposed...
from that distance i would suggest its not too difficult for a decent player to get the ball over the ball and then have it drop back down on target.

thats not taking anything away from the free kick though, really well struck.

No matter how well struck it was the fact that Mignolet was not looking at the ball or general direction of the players who could potentially take the kick has to work as some kind of disadvantage?

If he's ready he gives himself a chance. The first he saw of what had gone on was when the ball struck the net. I'll venture the opinion that Mignolet himself might be slightly frustrated with that one.

                            Magic pelanty save tho.

He must have the weirdest selection of gaffes from a keeper ever. Everyone has got the dropped crosses, letting a **** shot underneath them or whatever but he's got that last night, the one v Bordeaux where he held on to the ball for about 30 seconds!! And this is probably my fav :

He's a strange keeper, it's like his mind goes blank for a few seconds and he forgets he's playing. Boss at penalties though.
