I just can't understand it. There's nothing more frustrating in life as having an interest in something, and not being able to have a say on what happens. Usually, you're happy that the people in charge are doing the right thing generally, but this is off the scale ridiculous. The fella is a liability, he can't play, he demonstrably causes problems and costs points, and is then rewarded with a new 5 year contract?! I don't get it. Also, what do they do to lessen the risk in the summer transfer window? Not bring in a keeper to challenge for the number one position, they actually go and sign someone even worse that can't be relied on, and costs the club as well.

Get Danny Ward in. I'm hoping he hasn't been chucked in straight away because they don't want to put all the pressure on him being the answer to how bad we are at the back, at such a young age. He's good though, and he's worth a go, especially if Bogdan was given a go at Watford.

We need some perspective here. Klopp binned bogdan after only 2 howlers. Mignolet makes two a game.

He's gone and were waiting for summer to bring in his replacement. That's it.

Thing is, he would have been out of contract by next year, so if we hadn't given him a contract now, we'd be stuffed when it comes to replacing him this summer

Ie. He stays on same contract and we buy a new Number One Summer 2016, we've then got a player who can basically go for absolute peanuts, if not free in January

This all supposes that someone would actually pay money for him, but still, the logic is sound. Ish

I don't think its as easy as binning Mignolet and the defensive problems will be fixed, but I can't imagine it would do any harm to try out Ward - like you say, he's massively error prone and is basically a lad standing on the line. He's not even providing the bare minimum.

I thought he had two years left on his contract, I might be wrong.

I can't see anyone paying money for him at all - we'll probably end up with him as number two never getting a game, and never challenging for the number one spot, and the cycle goes on.

Jurgen Klopp's appendix operation has gone well apparently. Now just to deal with the pain in his arse that is Simon Mignolet.
            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Maybe summer 2017, but the point still stands. Albeit less so

He was much better than this at Sunderland, he's fallen foul to the Liverpool Syndrome whereby really good Premiership players come to us and forget how to play football
He'll go for £4m or so in the summer, and whoever we get in to replace will duke it out with Ward for top dog

But yeah, not the player I'd want as backup if there are no suitors. The very definition of confidence player shouldn't be playing the odd game here and there

My feeling is that if you want to be a dominant team you require different things from your keeper - improved concentration and organization is more important than minor upgrades in shot stopping. Mignolet is worse for us as we give him less to do and more emphasis is made on his aerial ability as we go for few man mountains in defence and more supposed technical players.

The confidence point also rings true and I would say the majority of Mignolets failings are about mentality rather than lack of ability.

Getting a suitable keeper for the way we want to play has been a priority for us for a long time IMO. When Mignolet built him self back up from his low point last season I thought he might have improved but it turned out his upturn in form was an illusion.

Not a hope in hell for Mignolet, he's a goner.

The summer seems a long way away. I'd like to see him dropped again, it can't go on like this, the whole thing is perpetual. He has no confidence, and the fans are on his back, it never will get any better. Might as well do a Houllier on Westerveld and blow him out now.

Does anyone think he'll actually sell Mignolet, despite the 5 year contract? What possible reason could they have for giving him a contract that big?

I think he will be told we'll be buying a new number one and if he wants to stay as no.2 great, if not he can go.

I'd be happy with him as our no.2

I think he would, but who would buy him?

I wouldn't be. Can you imagine him coming in for FA Cup games and dropping clangers because he isn't match sharp? No thanks! Ward's a better keeper, I have absolutely no doubt about this

I imagine the plan was to maximise any potential sale price. Klopp was paying lip service to Mignolet being a great keeper and we offer him a new contract - to the outside world showing we have 'some' faith in him. Then, assuming he doesn't have an absolutely horrific second half to the season, you've got yourself a keeper with a decent reputation on a good contract but you are willing to listen to offers.

Then we buy a new keeper Mignolet is sold 'not happy being back up' and he leaves for a decent fee.

I doubt we realised the damage Mignolet could do to his own reputation and resale value by getting progressively worse game by game since he signed the contract, having that horrific second half to the season.

Either way, I don't think we were ever going to be seeing him as our starting net minder for the 16/17 season.
