I remember similar happening when Joe Corrigan was the GK coach, he seemed to make all our keepers wobbly and indecisive. Bring back Xavi Valero!

We signed him in 2013 and players usually sign for 5 years so that means his contract wasn't due to run out until summer 2018. All that being true there was zero reason to give him a new deal unless the club actually thinks he's useful. I don't think Klopp had seen enough of him to draw any conclusions one way or the other so he went along with it given that by and large he wasn't horrific up to the point he signed the new deal. Of course we've all been watching the horrorfest much longer so we knew the score.

I hope the situation is something like this: We want him to be backup for next season, while we ensure someone new settles in ok before selling Mignolet in summer 2017. If we were to do that he wouldn't sign a new contract after spending most of the season on the bench and would have 1 year on his contract when we try to sell, which means that the fee would be low or clubs could wait it out and get him for free a year later. Offering him the new contract safeguards a future transfer fee while it would hopefully have given him a boost this season (which hasn't happened).Originally posted by G View PostWe signed him in 2013 and players usually sign for 5 years so that means his contract wasn't due to run out until summer 2018. That'll do me as long as he's nowhere near the first team next season. I actually get angry when I see his gormless mug in between the sticks for us. He gets me riled up no end!Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI hope the situation is something like this: We want him to be backup for next season, while we ensure someone new settles in ok before selling Mignolet in summer 2017. That's a reasonable explanation.

Heres hoping, I'll be ****ing raging if he's not replaced. It's a key position and keepers aren't usually that expensive, theres no excuse. If Matip is as good as the reviews from Schalke fans / German media suggest and we get a good goalie that'd help enormously.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI hope the situation is something like this: We want him to be backup for next season, while we ensure someone new settles in ok before selling Mignolet in summer 2017. Ovr the last few seasons we have bought a virtually full team each summer. Ridiculous. Paisley would say replace three - no more, no less - each season, and I suspect Klopp will be closer to that than the last couple of years madness. So which positions should our 3 be? Goalkeeper, central defender and creative midfielder? Or central defender, creative midfielder and striker? Or.....

A bit off topic but I'd say Goalkeeper (Ter Stegen), Central Defender (Matip), Midfielder (Granit) and maybe a top quality striker (?).Originally posted by Paul12 View PostOvr the last few seasons we have bought a virtually full team each summer. Bearing in mind that we have Ings, Origi and Sturridge coming back from injury, defensively we have Gomez, Ilori and Flanagan to establish themselves and finally Grujic and Markovic from next season, we might only need the above four players.
Of course we'll need to bin off several players -
GK:
Mignolet
Defence:
Skrtel
Moreno
Enrique
Midfield:
Lucas
Alberto
Attack:
Balotteli

Mig is terrible. When you look at the atributes that you want in a goalie, then he is found lacking in most of them.
He is a catalyst of confusion when opposition have corners. Against Sunderland, he was so terrible and it was only their ineptitude taking corners that meant they didn't score before they did.
Also, what really really really annoys me about Mig is his distribution. There was a time on Saturday when we were at 0-0 and i counted how long it took him to kick out the ball. I think it was Moreno that gave him the ball and from then it took 35 seconds for him to kick it out. We were the home team, we were the attacking team. And Mig just gave the opposition a 35 second breather and time to get organised. I saw John O'Shea talking to his partner at the back. Getting organised. I actually said to the guy sat next to me, "he could actually get booked for time wasting here if we were winning the game".
And do you know what, his eventual kick out was terrible as well.
He doesn't command his box.
He is terrible at taking crosses.....so bad he doesn't even come for them that often.
He doesn't distribute the ball properly.
He creates havoc with our defenders by shouting stupidly at them.
He can't set up a wall properly.
He is a good shot-stopper.
Not good enough for us.
When I see him warming up, I look at the Mig and actually think I would swap him for any other premier league teams goalkeeper. Even Tim Howard.....who i think is ****e.
If we make only one signing this summer, then for me it has to be a goalkeeper. We have been ****e this season and if this clown didn't exist, then we would still be 8 to 10 points better off. Enough so that our league season wasn't over at the start of Feb.

It does sum him up, he looks like someone who knows he really shouldn't be at this club.
