i think Klopp was probably right last week when he said Karius is pushing Mignolet all the time in training. With 2 keepers who think that they should be number 1, the concentration every day to be ahead of your rival must be a good thing.

Is there a reason that conventional thinking is still about there being ONLY 1 Goalkeeper who can ever start? I dont see why rotating them in and out is such a bad thing. One dips in form, the other can come in until he needs to cycle out again.

The only thing is the development of a partnership between the CBs and the keeper. But that suggests all are in good form and injury free. With our ever rotating CB situation and the fact that Karius was clearly under pressure and out of form, then dropping him was the correct decision. Should Mignolets form drop of then I expect we will see Karius again.

I agree, as it stands Mignolet looks in great form and Karius can continue to build confidence in the cup matches.

Was never a fan of Mignolet from day one, but to be fair to him, he's been excellent recently. Let's hope he keeps it up.

Frustrating performance last night WTF he was doing for the freekick we'll never know, to a certain extent he redeemed himself by saving the penalty. But it seems he needs to either be dropped or make a mistake to up his level, we need him (or someone else) who can play at that higher level consistenty without all the silly mistakes.

Meh. I don't think anyone in the ground expected Luis would take it until it was too late. A sneaky run up and excellent strike. It was just good awareness and a well disguised. One of those things. Saving the pen more than makes up for it imo.

There were 3 people over the freekick, he should be prepared for any of them to take it, the referee had blow the whistle and he was still lining up his wall and moving about. I don't think that Mignolet could have saved it even if he was set, but would Luiz have taken the freekick in that manner if the wall was setup correctly and the GK set properly? It's a mistake that a top goalkeeper shouldn't be making, if the freekick goes in against a set GK and wall you just have to hold your hands up and say there is nothing you could do, but when you're not prepared properly you open yourself up for critisism.

Yeah criticism is a bit harsh. He was at fault and should have paid attention a bit more but he saved us for the penalty. Had we managed to win the game we wouldn't be talking about him. A little bit of luck wouldn't be bad sometimes.

He's a liability. For all his occasional good moments he makes too many stupid mistakes, the goal whilst well hit us entirely on him.

It was a sloppy goal to let in, but it was an unbelievable strike, he balanced the books with the penalty save though.

But his error directly led to us not winning, so its hard not to talk about it.

Because it's that easy to do. We bought a keeper, and played him and it cost us more goals. He has had a good season so far but when there is an incident he becomes a complete liability again. He's not the best and he is not a liability. We will never find a keeper who doesn't do dodgy things so we will have this reaction repeated for eternity unless people readjust their expectations.
