The debate may be a bit chicken and egg as regards defence and keeper but I feel as though a confident and commanding goalie would remove nerves from those in front of him and allow them to perform to a higher level as a team. If he is a shouter with good distribution then this influence can spread even further up the pitch. I really hope we don't start next season with the same compliment of keepers. IMHO doing so would mean we failed to address an Achilles heel of the team and may jeopardise our development going forward. It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

as you say a bit chicken and egg....but how can we be so poor at defending...Stoke's goal should have been dealt with by the defenders....the keeper is your last line of defense, not sure what the issue is as to why we can't defend or do the basics, maybe we need a Hypia type to calm everyone down...according to James Pearce management are very impressed with mignolets improvement and a new keeper is not a priority this summer

True.
Not all Mig's fault at all, at least he seems to have worked on his faults, made the effort to improve.

Defending is not just the people comprising the back 4 or 3. It's all the players. Bender is right in saying that a keeper is the last line of defence.
I think we can defend well, but don't do it consistently enough. We did well enough against Stoke but still stupid mistakes. For one of Mignolet's saves it was Gini who put the ball back into the box. How can you explain that kind of stuff?
A lot is also about calmness and keeping the ball. That's what Chelsea do well for example. They take the sting out of games at crucial moments so as not to invite pressure on them. It's all about control and it's not about all the time about having a Franco Baresi in defence. Are we winning?

Has done really well for us since he came back into the squad and the saves at the weekend were brilliant-Personally, I think we can still upgrade upon him but will have to spend big in order to do so, his form has bought him some more time with us as top class keepers are few and far between and its hard to tell how well the likes of Pickford, Butland, Heaton, Forster etc will do if they make the step up into the big time.

the keeper will have the best view of how the attackers are moving and where the dangers are. he needs to be shouting instructions to the defence helping to make them more aware of whats going on around them and other runners off the ball.
quite often i see everyone watching the ball and others just walking around the edge of the box not watching for people arriving late...removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Personally I think there is much better than him out there that we would easily getOriginally posted by kev776 View PostHe is the best we will get without regular CL, there are not that many better GK out there that are not already at bigger/better clubs.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. too many ball watchers, no one looking around and screaming at the other players to pick up other men. what would Carra be doing, ehOriginally posted by Lecter View PostOur biggest problem is 2nd balls

Yep our reactions are terrible, see Evertons goal, Bournemouths 2nd and the chance that fell to Adam at StokeOriginally posted by baitman View Posttoo many ball watchers, no one looking around and screaming at the other players to pick up other men. what would Carra be doing, eh

All down to a failure to compete for 2nd balls and that is just looking at the last 3 games, its been endemic in virtually all of our matches this seasonBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

A couple of good games don't mean a thing, and it changes nothing for me.
He is a poor in every single possible way, all the things you want and expect from a keeper - he fails to deliver.
He's ****e, I really hope next season we get better in otherwise we're just going to be in the exact same position as we are now.
Would like to add that the piss poor defence in front aren't helping Mignolet either but then again he doesn't help himself.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."
