    Steven Gerrard's testimonial (v Olympiakos, August 3rd 2013)

Disappointing to hear that's it's the current squad that are going to be playing in this match. Unusual for a testimonial, no? I was expecting quite a few players from the past to be playing.

Is that confirmed? That is disappointing. I will be there on Saturday and was expecting to see the likes of Pepe, Torres, Carra, Fowler, Owen and even read somewhere Iniesta was coming.

@RyanBabel: Trying to see if i can make it to Steven Gerrard's testimonial next week... #YNWA

I presumed this was to play rather than watch - I seemed to remember Torres rumours too!

Riise tweeted a while back that he wouldn't be playing as it was an important friendly for the club.

Hey Marcus...not seen u around a while. Not sure I get why Riise would have said that. Don't make sense....he was probably just not invited.

So what happened to Torres, Mascherano, Alonso and Iniesta?

Rather the club have a separate game tbh.

Good. I find the kick abouts a bit **** though it's nice to see some old faces. I'm sure Gerrard has had a big say either way and is happy with it.

Not really a testimonial then if it's an "important friendly".....what ever that is!

I always thought testimonials are played at seasons end. This sounds more like a friendly & as such is an important hit out for our lads. Step up in class for the lads too.

Testimonials are designed to reward players with ten years or more service at one club with a tax free send off. It's a valuable benefit for those in the lower leagues and it used to be a valuable benefit for those in the top flight until until they became multi millionaires. More often than not these days, the money is donated to good causes.
                      Oh I don't know.

Its a sell out as far as I know. You could probably get some on the day around the ground but expect to pay top prices.

What is the situation with the club shop on matchdays? Anyone know if it will be open after the game? I want to pick up a few bits and bobs before heading back down south and was wondering if it would be possible on the Saturday.
