    Evaluating Rodgers' 'Project'

As supporters we know that we need Champions League football. Top quality players want CL football and must look at the other players in the team and wonder whether they're good enough to achieve that level? The owners want to spend as little as possible to achieve success. I'm not convinced that we have the right owners to invest in the squad to take us to the next level. We're no longer a top four team. I'm not being defeatist, but if we don't make significant progress with at least a couple of really good players during this transfer window then FSG are wasting their time and ours.

    Moment 22.

No club ever have been successful trying to do what we do. As it stands right now looking at the squads in the PL then we have more or less no chance at all to finish in the top four.

We don't play our games in London. That means that we need to pay higher wages. We don't play in the CL. Again it means that we must pay higher wages. Instead we are trying to do the opposite.

Good luck FSG, you need it. You need it indeed.

Might have to re-evaluate my position when Arn is agreeing with me!

We either exist to win or we simply exist. We're just like most other clubs now, we can enjoy our good results and be philosophical about the bad. It seems that we're not able to compete at the top level of football either in the transfer market or on the football field any more. That's not pessimism it's realism. Unless of course we bring in better players and retain the best ones we currently have.

Look at Man U how important the manager is when it comes down to attracting the top quality players. Moyes instead of DBF means that they now have a big problem attracting top quality players.

I have been laughed at when I said that having Rodgers as our manager means that it will be even more difficult to attract the top quality players the first seasons until he showed that he is top quality and built up his reputation.

He cost us players. Not his fault and he can't do anything about it. Just the way it is.

I also wonder why so many of our older players want to leave. Suarez want to leave. Reina wanted to leave and have now done so. Skrtel want to leave.

Do they really believe in Rodgers and FSG project? Do they really believe that it will take us back to the CL in the near future?

The project may be great for our younger players but what about the players that can't afford to wait year after year.

We had a great opportunity this window to close the gap but so far we haven't done it.

TBH, if nobody replied to Arn, then there wouldn't be a problem. We're like flies to a ****.
              Oh I don't know.

Last seasons CL finalists play in the Bundesliga. That means that they don't need to pay as high wages because they don't have as big TV deal as the PL have and mega rich owners isn't allowed.

They can also play their young players in their B teams and let them play competive games at a very good level week in week out.

They also have Klopp that already built up his reputation. Excellent CV and all that. Rodgers don't have that. He was at the same situation as Rodgers a few years ago. He couldn't attract the best players back then but because the Bundesliga isn't as strong as the PL then you don't need to spend as much money to qualify for the CL.

A PL club must spend a lot more money than a Bundesliga club to be competitive in the domestic league.

Well, the project haven't worked so far. Time will tell if it will work better.

Nobody has suggested we spend the same as Dortmund did because, duh, we have more money thanks to the PL deal. So the comparison is about relative spends but a similar approach and the idea is we all have to be patient.

And yes thanks, we all know that. How about you accept it instead of veering between stating the f*cking obvious one minute and extrapolating wildly the next?
                      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I think what FSG trying to do would be excellent in the Bundesliga but I don't think it will work out in the PL.

Sorry Arn. Do you know what the project is? By my reckoning it's probably to develop the club top to bottom. Not spend wildly in transfer fees, but have a concious plan to improve all levels from the youth to the first team, be self sustaining with a focus on young players. Try and achieve our goal a different way because we're never going to be able to compete financially with the likes of City or Chelsea in terms of buying players

That kind of plan requires time to be implemented successfully like it did at Dortmund. But it falls apart if the fans aren't prepared to wait I guess

                            Yes, we know.

As far as I can think it hasn't been tried here before - at least not by a club of our standing - so there's no more to go on.

So give it two more years and then let's take stock.
