Evaluating Rodgers' 'Project'

i dont understand why people are such arseholes when it comes to Arns posts. whats so wrong about saying that rodgers isnt a top name in management ? he isnt yet but might be in 5 years time when hes got a track record of achievement. If you talk about the top managers in world football now - ancelotti, mourinho, benitez, wenger, Klopp, guardiola - Brendan Rodgers' name isnt on that list and wont be for a while.Originally posted by Arn View Post
Look at Man U how important the manager is when it comes down to attracting the top quality players. Moyes instead of DBF means that they now have a big problem attracting top quality players.
I have been laughed at when I said that having Rodgers as our manager means that it will be even more difficult to attract the top quality players the first seasons until he showed that he is top quality and built up his reputation.
He cost us players. Not his fault and he can't do anything about it. Just the way it is.
I also wonder why so many of our older players want to leave. Suarez want to leave. Reina wanted to leave and have now done so. Skrtel want to leave.
Do they really believe in Rodgers and FSG project? Do they really believe that it will take us back to the CL in the near future?
The project may be great for our younger players but what about the players that can't afford to wait year after year.
We had a great opportunity this window to close the gap but so far we haven't done it.
new players need something to believe in, and as there's no champions league football and no prospect of it either, a team thats finished out of top 4 league positions for 4/5 seasons, with its best player dying to get away.
from the outside it looks like we're going nowhere. to attract players who can help us make the step up, with the other factors missing, Brendan Rodgers doesnt have the reputation (yet) that will make top players forgo all those other things that might be important to them and still sign for us.
Arn hasnt said anything wrong. AVB will face the same issues that rodgers is facing. they can sell bale for whatever they want but with no CL this season, why would elite players want to go there. AVB isnt a massive name in football management either.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

I considered the first example but they also made marquee signings like Andy Cole.Originally posted by Rowan View PostI'd suggest that Man Utd bringing through Beckham, Giggs, Scholes and the Nevilles while supplenting with additional players when needed wasn't a million miles away and proved to be pretty successful.
And of the Arsenal invincible team. That was a blend of experience while adding not exvessively expensive additions as well as adding youth players when appropriate.
And that's just off the top of my head. A scout about would undoubtably turn up more. Was muß, das muß.

Has anyone actually disagreed? ...And then restating it a dozen times as though it should have changed in the minutes, hours, days or even weeks since he last made exactly the same point..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

But isn't it a vicious circle. If you are a club who aren't going to pump in millions for a quick fix, which top class manager is going to come to you? By millions I mean £100m odd in a window. That's what it's going to take to get us challenging for the Top 4. There aren't many other prospective owners out there who are going to come in and do that, especially with FFP coming in and pretty much preventing it.
Most people mention Rafa. But he'd still be operating under the fniancial model of FSG and there is no guarantee he'd get us Top 4 or attract the players instantly.
Fact is, most of us appreciate that we're in no position to attract the big names. Therefore, possibly there is an acceptance that we won't get Top 4 in the next year or so, but we may get it if fill the team with good players who want to sign and we can develop a team.
It really has nothing much to do with Rodgers, Ayre or FSG that we aren't in the Top 4 or challenging yet. We were deep in the mire when FSG took over. If a sugar daddy was going to buy us, they would have purchased us then. They didn't. And there was probably a reason for that.

I think a useful cut off can be drawn at when Abramovich came to the PL. After that the model doesn't seem to have really worked in terms of winning with United, Chelsea and City all using buying power more than development of young players.Originally posted by Rowan View PostI'd suggest that Man Utd bringing through Beckham, Giggs, Scholes and the Nevilles while supplenting with additional players when needed wasn't a million miles away and proved to be pretty successful.

United being the closest to a viable model to follow and they started with a league winning team. It will be interesting to see how they continue with Moyes rather Fergusson trying to hold back the forces of time and comparative under investment.
There is definitely something to Arns argument that in the PL foreign investment has made the model of Dortmund look less likely to succeed. However, it is pretty clear that the PL teams have not been performing well in the CL in the last couple of seasons (generally, even if Chelsea won it). Suggesting that perhaps the money is not being used all that well and alternative approaches might be able to compete."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

it's Rafa's fault for dropping us out of the CL with a seventh place finish from a top four squad.

Many other posters sound like the same broken record as me but because they are positive they don't get a lot of abuse.Originally posted by SB View PostYeah but Arn your like a bloody broken record. You just go over and over the same negative **** mate. Lighten up & enjoy life. And that's not abusing you mate, that's some fatherly advice.
I'm not the only one that sound like a broken record. Many others do the same. The same posters then abuse me for sounding like a broken record.
Having a different opinion isn't allowed. It simply isn't. If you have a negative opinion then it is hunting time. If you have a positive opinion then it is ok to sound like a broken record.

Sorry I don't agree with that
FSG listened to the fans and signed up Kenny and he wasted a lot of money. That is what we are paying for now.
We spent a lot of money back then without even having a plan by the look of it. Player after player was signed and played out of position. Kenny made players worse, not better. Signing up Kenny was a very big mistake.
To much about PR and please the fans after our **** owners Gillett and Hicks.Stop the cyberhate
