Amazing what some see. Ilori did really well
He was more aggressive than previously, cleared the ball better and some of his 1v1 defending was brilliant.
If the team is going to press high and early you need CB's who are quick and can defend both 1v1 and in wide areas.
Ilori showed a lot of promise on both fronts.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Its more amazing what some dont want to see. But this phenomenum isnt just linked Ilori......
He is a very young classy CB with a great football career ahead of him.....
I was pretty impressed with him. Apart from two horrendous passes straight to the opposition he was solid. Looks a bit iffy in the air when under pressure, but he's very very composed on the ball and always seems to be in the right spot to intercept or cut out a pass. Good signs.

"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." Nicey
I think him and Matip (from what I've seen) would be a nice combo.
I do like the look of Lucas at CB though. He just reads the game so well and isn't a complete pussy. He could be our little Cannavaro
...just need a Nesta next to him

The number of times Valencia, Antonio or whichever pacy attacker isolated him 1 v 1 you could just see the disdain in Illori's eyes. He was daring them to go past him at pace or try some dribbles. He was having none of it.
Dare I say it he reminds me of the impressive Smalling this season minus the heading ability.
He has all the raw material to become a really classy CB. He has something of the Hansen/Agger type of style in his play. I think he reads the game well, he is tall, fast. He just needs experience. Definitely worth persevering with as a back up next season after the cull we will undoubtedly have in the summer. These games have been good for him, the biggest pity of going out last night is he is unlikely to get more time on the pitch.
He definitely looks like he could use a few more KGs, especially in the upper body to help him challenge in the air better. And with his page he shouldn't struggle to keep up even with a few more kilos on him
Thought he was great, him and Lucas meshed really well. Get him in for the league games over players like Toure and Skrtel who dont mesh with others and have no future here.
