FA may persuade Ilori to play for England
Neil Ashton has been looking into one of Liverpool's new signings:
The FA are to ask for talks with Liverpool's new defender Tiago Ilori after it emerged he is eligible for the England national team.
Ilori was born in England but has represented the Portuguese national team at junior level throughout his career in the country with Sporting.
England chief Roy Hodgson and Under-21 coach Gareth Southgate fear there is a lack of talent making the breakthrough in the Barclays Premier League.
It is a subject that will be addressed when new FA chairman Greg Dyke makes a strong speech on the issue on Wednesday.
England were alerted to the possibility that Ilori could be persuaded to switch nationality after his move to Anfield.
Ilori, 20, was also wanted by Tottenham, but the move was blocked and he decided to move to Liverpool instead.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’Comment
