Kolo Toure confident he'll be back when Liverpool FC take on Swansea next week
10 Sep 2013 08:11
Defender suffered a groin injury during Capital One Cup tie
Kolo Toure is confident he will shake off his groin injury in time to face Swansea City next week.
And in doing so, the Ivorian defender is to hand manager Brendan Rodgers a major selection headache for Monday night’s game at the Liberty Stadium.
Martin Skrtel stepped in for the injured Toure against Manchester United at Anfield last week after the former Manchester City man was stretchered off during extra-time in Liverpool’s Capital One Cup tie with Notts County.
Skrtel produced an impressive performance against the Premier League champions in only his second league start since March.
Toure has made an instant impact since arriving on a free transfer in the summer and helped guide Liverpool to clean sheets in their opening two games of the season.
The 32-year-old quickly formed a partnership with vice-captain Daniel Agger to help fill the void left by the retired Jamie Carragher.
Rodgers had hailed the early season form of Toure and Agger but Skrtel’s display in the 1-0 win over arch-rivals United will have given him food for thought.
Rodgers said: “Kolo is the type of character that I love in a back four, an organiser and a leader.
“I think whether he’s playing with Daniel or whether he’s playing with Martin Skrtel, you need that leadership.
“Daniel’s a wonderful talent, he’s an international captain, he’s one of the best left-sided players in the world, so it’s two experienced players, but it’s important that you play together, and they’ve held us together really well.”
Toure was in training at Melwood yesterday with the rest of the Liverpool squad not away on international duty.
The on-loan Aly Cissokho remains sidelined with ankle injury but is now able to move around without the aid of crutches. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

We are so spoilt for choice at the back. Can't wait for the game though, really looking forward to it.
Fourth round fixtures
Man Utd V Crystal Palace
Aston Villa V Newcastle
Fulham V West Brom
Hull V Cardiff
Stoke V Man City
Sunderland V Arsenal
Tottenham V Norwich
Everton V Chelsea
Southampton V West Ham
Swansea V Liverpool
It would be nice to see Chelsea, City or Spurs dropping points, but in reality, I guess we are in just as much danger of doing so.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Mignolet
Wisdom Toure Agger Enrique
Lucas Gerrard
Henderson Coutinho Aspas
Sturridge
I reckon Moses will start on the bench, I think he'll have to earn his place or at least give Aspas the chance to keep his. Only other change could be Skrtel keeping his place based on his last performance.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

agreed bar the centre half - unsure on thatOriginally posted by The Birdman View PostMignolet

1 - not sure toure will be fit
2 - Skrtel arguably should start following his performance against the mancs
3 - however Sakho is our 'big' signing and plus thanks to the international break he's had a chance to settle into the club and i'm sure the club would have had a good look at him, had him involved in a couple of training games etc
other than that i expect sturridge to be back and moses in for aspas would make sense.
Also - defo Wisdom at right back in the absence of Johnson, Kelly not match fit and i'd be shocked to see ilori starti own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Yeah I don't think we need to rush Toure back in for this one. As you said Skrtel did fantastic last start & should be trusted again here. Not sure about starting Moses either. He won't have trained with us at all most likely so an option off the bench IMO.Originally posted by PTP View Postagreed bar the centre half - unsure on that

We've kept 3 clean sheets, there is 1 enforced change with Johnson injured so if Toure is fit he plays, if not then I think Skrtel will start ahead of Sakho purely because otherwise we'd be choosing to put 2 new players into a back 4.
Just because we paid big money for Sakho doesn't mean he has to automatically start. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
