    Well deserved Rodgers and Sturridge

Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers and Daniel Sturridge pick up Premier League awards for August

Liverpool duo Brendan Rodgers and Daniel Sturridge have been named the Premier League manager and player of the month for August.

The pair have been rewarded for the Reds' 100 per cent start to the season, where they recorded back-to-back 1-0 victories over Stoke City and Aston Villa respectively.

Sturridge netted the winner in both of those games and has since extended his tally to five goals in four matches.

An ongoing groin problem prevented the 24-year-old from joining up with England but he is expected to be part of Rodgers' squad for Monday's trip to Swansea.

Rodgers has guided his side to the top of the Premier League and former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier believes the Northern Irishman is the right manager to bring success back to Anfield.

"I like his philosophy because it goes well with the Liverpool culture," said Houllier. "I like his passing game and also their results this season. They're top of the league and I hope they can stay there for as long as possible.

"I was impressed by their solid resilience and team spirit. When you win 1-0 you can't say the result is easy; you've got to fight and they've showed they're capable of doing that."

Have been for God knows how long I've been watching football. Really could have done without them until after the Swansea game.

Well deserved, but traditionally a precursor to a slump in form.

Oh and the irony of Houllier talking about the Liverpool philosophy and style of play.

Well, at least he didn't try and claim credit for it.

Going on historical data (from 2006/07 season) the manager of the month percentages in their next match are:

                    46% won, 27% drew and 27% lost.

Myth busted and eyes dried out!

But... the previous 4 games would have accrued something like a minimum 75% win rate, in order for them to have won the award.
