From this point in time I'd be really disappointed if the gap was 10 points by close of playOriginally posted by rcasemore View PostI'm just amazed that come mid Feb we're still talking about if we can actually win the title!
Clearly we're still in the race for it this season but I just don't think we'll have quite enough; if we finish within 10 points of the winners you'd still have to look at this season as a resounding success.
That being said you never know

I mean with figures that involve the word billion.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI'm struggling to see your point.
Many top teams have bought their way to the top (Chelsea and City) or rode the wave of money (Man Utd and Arsenal).
That's the strength of my argument. Was muß, das muß.

Ah ok, I only became interested in football around 92 because we had Sky so I got to watch loads more matches with my friend (Liverpool fan) and that's how I got into all this malarkey!Originally posted by Nigey View PostIt was the same thing back then.
We've fallen behind because we let our guard slip and other teams have been better. Was muß, das muß.

So would I but realistically you'd still have to look at the season as a success if we finished in the top 4 and c.10 points off the top of the table.Originally posted by Norbs View PostFrom this point in time I'd be really disappointed if the gap was 10 points by close of play
It might be a disappointment from where we are currently but at the start of the season I'd have jumped at that.

The league is the league however you brand it. United were always the richest club but they just did not get their act together until the 90s.
And we've hardly been paupers throughout the 90s.Oh I don't know.

Man United fan talk/sky bull**** that one.
The league would totally surpass Istanbul for me, it's been too late now, we are up against some massive wallets and big managers. It would be epic. I'm (un)lucky enough to be old enough to remember us winning it before but it was routine then, still amazing but you got used to it.
To win it this season, I don't have the words to describe what it would mean.

It kinda gets on my nerves, this whitewashing of domestic football history Pre 1991. The league was around for over a hundred years before that. And the sky money didn't change things over night. We had the British transfer record with Collymore. Newcastle broke it with Shearer. Leeds won the league.Originally posted by G View Post

It's the same game. No rules have changed, save for the offside rule and the backpass.Oh I don't know.

Ok then, we were managed by a **** manager, with **** players and a clueless board.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI just can't see the relevance.

PS. I wasn't whitewashing it, I just wasn't around football then so I can only go by what has happened in the last 22 years.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIt kinda gets on my nerves, this whitewashing of domestic football history Pre 1991. Bizarre.
I was born in 1978, does that mean that the titles we won before that aren't relevant? Of course not.
Sky have made a concerted effort to give the impression the top division in football has only existed since they took it over and it was renamed the Premier League rather than the first division.
Football has been around long before Sky and will be around if Sky ever cease to exist as well.
