Absolutely mental tactics by Rodgers and for me he is 100% to blame for this. You could get away with having four offensive players like we started with if you had a peak Mascherano and Alonso as the two holding players. However you are seriously asking for trouble when you leave out Lucas/Allen and rely on Henderson and Gerrard to hold when neither of them are defensively sound to play that role. With all due respect to Henderson he has been covering for Gerrard. Rodgers better make a change at half time.

Henderson hasn't been dreadful. He's been better than most in an abject performance.

Hendersons been our best player with Suarez. The rest look like rabbits in headlights.

Henderson has been good - but being a one man midfield means he can only do so much. Lucas/Allen for Gerrard/Coutinho and we can win this.

Both wont happen though.

As others have pointed out it can't be a coinicidence that we conceded 5 goals in 130 minutes of football with Gerrard as DM. The midfield needs players who have the legs to press and are good positionally both Gerrard and Henderson have failed miserably today in that respect.

In this defensive based position, I'd agree. Put him further forward and he's still got more than enough to make a difference.

The defensive shoehorning of Gerrard doesn't work. Totti hasn't gone further back, neither did Baggio. Gerrard is an attacking player.

Personally I think we should take him off at HT, but we know that won't happen.

So maybe we should put Lucas on for Coutinho, and put Gerrard up there. See how it goes

I don't think we need both Lucas and Allen on, but we do need one of them (Lucas). I'd bring Lucas on for Coutinho and let Gerrard move forward a little, but we'd have 3 vs 3 in the centre of the park

Gerrard being in the "holding role" wasn't any more of a problem than playing with a two-man midfield. It's not like we were boss aside from Stevie and shoehorning him in the side has caused this whole thing - the entire shape was wrong.

Gerrard finished? Jesus, some knee jerk reaction on here. We, as a team, haven't turned up today.

If we are looking at bombing people out of the team we need to look at players like Johnson, Toure and the ****ing keeper first.
