Sterling has much more speed an width to his game than Coutinho which will compliment Sturridge. Coutinho could replace one of Henderson or Gerrard in midfield and be more effective than replacing our best right sided forward. IMO

I would say he has to take some responsibility, I have to admit I was a little complacent before the game and excited with the lineup but I'm just a fan. Brendan needs to keep his feet in the ground.
Or he was pointing out the need for cover or a replacement for Lucas by showing how ****e Stevie is in that position?

Not sure it's obvious, I'd drop sterling and tell him to work on his finishing. Who'd you replace him with though?

Coutinho or Stevie in the middle but if a wide player has to make wY it would be Coutinho for me.

Just think we looked very lack lustre when Coutinho was injured - think he gives us a lot of options

A firing Coutinho does but he's been off his game for quite some time now. Over hitting through balls & he's lost his shooting boots too. Might be better off the bench for a bit.

For all the slating of Rodgers and the players in this thread, perhaps Aston Villa should be commended. They were up and at us from the start and their high-pressing forced us to launch the ball more times in 45 minutes than we have all season. Clearly their extra man in midfield helped, but they didn't allow us to find our rythm and forced us to make mistakes. We conceded possession by going long - no wonder we couldn't get our midget strikeforce into the game.

Lambert chose to play the long ball game in the second half against Arsenal and all game against us (with speedy Gonzaleses lapping up the knock-ons). We rightly slate Stoke for this so no need to revise for Villa.

Arsenal still beat them and we constructed our own downfall. The proof is Lambert's long ball game doesn't work with any other premiership club as they've all grown up on it.

No I'm not having that either. They did press us early but they also capitalised on some monumental stuff ups on our part more than anything else

                      Good try though.

A note on Bertrand after the match. As well as Sterling played, Ryan was bloody good settling straight into a dodgy backline and holding back our only pace attack.

Wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea 'blocked' any chance of him coming to us on loan. Makes sense.
