Not uncomfortable per se, but given what the word means I think it's strange that it's used in any context other than the one it was originally intended for (assuming that the biblical sense is the original meaning)

Using it to describe anything but actual rape seems a bit flippant, and it's about as non flippant as you could imagine something being
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Arsenal fan stabs Liverpool supporter during 'bitter argument' over 5-1 game

An Arsenal fan in Kenya stabbed a Liverpool supporter on Saturday as they watched the 5-1 Premier League game unfold.

Liverpool won the game after racing into a 4-0 lead after just 20 minutes.

The local police chief for the north eastern region of Meru, Tom Odera, told Reuters: "the assailant and the deceased had a bitter argument over the match".

He continued: "The assailant, David Mwangi, drew out a knife and stabbed Anthony Mutethia."

It is not the first time a football related dispute in Africa has grabbed headlines.

A man in the Iganga District of Eastern Uganda reportedly lost his house in a bet over the outcome of the meeting between Arsenal and Manchester United earlier this season. The winner of that particular bet had staked his Toyota Premio and one of his wives.

A Manchester United follower in the capital of Nairobi last year committed suicide after his team lost to Newcastle.

Edit - poor bugger was killed - RIP

What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

            4.
an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.

There's nothing wrong at all with using it in this context, it is the original intention.

            Origin:
            1250–1300; (v.) Middle English rapen < Anglo-French raper < Latin rapere to seize, carry off by force, plunder; (noun) Middle English < Anglo-French ra ( a ) p ( e ), derivative of raper

The dickheads with the crap like "being rapped up the bum" on the other hand they're misusing it more than a wee bit.

We did rape Arsenal, just not in a sexual manner, and certainly not up the bum.

I don't for a second believe that even a significant minority of people are using it with anything other than reference to sexual violence in mind.

Yeah wish the Arsenal fans would not use that word. They were dry bummed.

Think its a fair point of discussion for the post match thread.

                            As you were.
                            *Except Michael, who died.

Apparently Claudio Ranieri showed his Monaco side a video of our first half performance the other night in preparation for their game against PSG.
Think it ended 1-1 between them, so buttons to that.......but clearly we are the new benchmark in how football should be played.

Haha Ranieri. Can't be arsed coaching so relies on others.

Remember when he took over from Rafa at Valencia. That Italian defender Carboni asked Ranieri "How do you want us to defend?"....Ranieri said "Just like you did last season"....to which he replied "But we had five ways of defending last season depending on the opposition" and Ranieri allegedly said "Well then use whichever method you feel like"
