Because apart from us and Everton, the rest have not got better. They have stagnated or regressed. City have improved marginally.

    Right, I'm late for football.

    I'll be back.
    Oh I don't know.

Yep it's become blurred - competitive/better. The top of the league is clearly more competitive as I have demonstrated - more teams competing for 1st, more teams competing for a place in the top 4, all teams concerned bar Man Utd and arguably Spurs are performing better and picking up more points than last season - City included, as per the original point.

If the league is more competitive than it was then in my view that makes it better than it was.

I also think claiming it's a weaker and more uncompetitive league does a bit of a disservice to us and our progress.

As for City, they're a better side under Pellegrini than last season but regardless I still think we'll beat them.
More competitive means more exciting, it doesn't mean anything in relation to the standard of football. The championship is often more competitive than the PL, does that make it a better league? Similarly, the number of points is irrelevant. If Celtic get more points in their league does that make it a better league? Or is it because Rangers are no longer in the division and the overall quality has fallen?

I think it's fairer to say the league has bunched and is more competative. The middle teams have got a bit better, the traditional top teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U (and before this season, us) are to varying degrees not as good as they once were. And in the bottom half of the league it has bunched again with everyone just being a bit more ****.

Personally I think City are better than they were last season. But again, picking on individual teams doesn't really prove or disprove anything if you are examining the overall picture. Nor does comparing two seasons, that's like saying climate change isn't happening because this year was colder than last year.

Our achievement and improvement this season is staggering and unprecedented. Arguments about the quality of the league don't have any bearing on that.

Dead end then. City, Liverpool, Everton, and Chelsea have all clearly improved, Arsenal debatable, Spurs stayed the same, United clearly regressed.

I never said I didn't agree with your point about the CL, just your logic on the PL points train of argument. I've shown where I stand I terms of assessment of the top teams - and Scum () above too. Broadly agreeing with you though, doesn't mean I have to endorse your flawed logic.

More competitive might mean "better" in terms of a viewing spectacle, but it doesn't mean the ceiling of the quality is higher, just that the quality at the top is more evenly distributed.
          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Maybe a mod could move all this to a new thread or summat

Well I still don't think it's flawed but even if it is, it's more than the other side of the argument which is "well it just is"

Heard absolutely nothing to back up why it is weaker other than "it just is".

Well that's fair enough. Anyways, you've bored me into submission now - you're like the Chelsea of debaters.

But as this argument has shown, like Chelsea he is also bit less consistent than he used to be.

I didn't think it was one of your edits, just seems astonishing how well we've done when pretty much all the other top teams have improved this year.
