Jose Mourinho: I want to rest key players against Liverpool at Anfield

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says he wants to rest key players for Sunday's trip to league leaders Liverpool.

Liverpool are five points clear of Chelsea with three games left and Mourinho wants to focus on the Blues' Champions League semi-final, level at 0-0 after Tuesday's first leg.

"I would play the players that are not going to play next Wednesday [against Atletico Madrid]," he said.

"I can't decide by myself. I'm just the manager. I have to listen to the club."

Chelsea's 2-1 defeat by Sunderland last weekend means even a win at Anfield would not be enough to stop Liverpool from winning their first title in 24 years should Brendan Rodgers' side win their remaining two games.

Manchester City can still win the title if they win their remaining four fixtures and Liverpool lose a game.

When told that resting players against Liverpool might not please City, Mourinho said: "I think I will do it, but we have to speak internally."

And after losing captain John Terry and goalkeeper Petr Cech to injury in Tuesday's draw against Atletico Madrid, Mourinho believes next week's return leg at Stamford Bridge is the more important fixture.

I don't think he will play all of that back four, he can't risk injuries. Cole will probably play. Mikel is guaranteed to start with lampard.

Exactly as I suspected with Mourinho's potential team selection. Wouldn't surprise me if he picks nobody who is expected to play in the 2nd leg. Midfield picks itself with Lampard/Matic/Mikel but the rest could be a mess! Defence could be a mess which works out perfectly for us!

When we played Chelsea in the second leg of the CL semis in 2005, that game was on a Tuesday night and we played the previous Saturday - the same amount of time in between that Chelsea will have.

And it was exactly the same when we played them again in the semis in 2007.

We didn't have the luxury of riches that Chelsea possess, nor did we have elevenbillionty players out on loan.
