Skrtel made the wrong decision for their first by coming to meet the ball but he was left marking two players. If he doesn't come out and the ball is flicked on then they're clean through also. That shouldn't be happening from a simple lob forward. Lucas should have been following his man back but he was 15 yards away jogging about.

There was nothing wrong with his positioning for the other two goals at all. Very much an escaped goat on here, probably due to Chris's myopic hatred of every thing he does. Look at the player of the season thread, that will tell you why he's in the starting lineup.

Catastrophic defending. The defence and midfield just collapsed when it mattered and its been coming. Rodgers will surely now to defensive overhaul in the summer.

It's been a great season, a big overachievement and our attacking play has been absolutely sensational. Very proud of the Reds.

Neville made some good points about our need for a necessary bit of cynicism and he's right. It won't make us Chelsea/Mourinho - it'll make us winners. If we can get that into the team mentality then we can compete again next year. If we don't - we'll fall away.

Ashley Cole will be targeted just for that sort of role I think. What Kolo Toure was meant to do except he was a bit **** unfortunately.

Quick points.

Our defence cuts us this game. But it was the full backs not the centre backs. Johnson incredible first half. Well on top v Bolasie. That was the key battle in this match. Swung big time in the second half, that kid was red hot. Sadly Glen had Lucas as back up who was dead on his feet.

First goal, Glen should be closing down. Second Suicidal footy by us and Couts needs to do what England should have done to Diego in 86. Kick the ****er and take a booking. Third goal, I couldn't figure out how we ended up out numbered. But both the full backs allow the wide players of Palace inside and give the CBs too many players to worry about. Glen & Flanno, horrible defending.

I have to say that after tonight, our whole defence isn't good enough.

Ashley Cole in our defence next season would be great. He's hardly played all season and has come into the Chav team and looked like he's never been away. Cunt or not he's better than what we have at the minute.

Just mind blowing. Three ****ing goals in ten minutes. It's difficult to avoid knee jerk statements at times like this but Johnson,Mignolet,Sakho,Lucas,Skrtel all culpable there. Just insanity. A shot at the title literally thrown away. Just crazy.

If Rogers didn't have 100% belief in his system we wouldn't be in this position now in my opinion. We really have no right to be at the top of the table with this crop of players, and if we've played more defensively against Chelsea or tried to shut up shop tonight, then chances are we would've played more conservatively in the run up and not won 11 on the bounce. Disappointing as it is, I really do think we'd be way off top now if we were anymore conservative.

I'm not saying we play like Mourinho, or completely sacrifice the attacking drive, I think the system needs some tweaking to allow us not so much to be 'defensively solid' more to stop us being so soft at the back and carved open so easily. Our system relies a lot on people working hard and pressing high up the pitch. This season that has been fine we have been able to keep it up for most of the season, but next year when you add extra games, less time between games and more travelling it will be difficult to keep up the same level, even with more players available. I just can't see us playing the same way next year.

As BR said though, it's more of a case of not managing the game properly. Once the pressure comes on during these games, we stop keep hold of the ball, we stop marking people and just seem to retreat into a foetal position. We almost need the defence to be bolder and engage teams higher up the field.
