I also didn't feel it was that big a choke. We were pouring forward looking for more goals. We were looking for more goals. Everyone was thinking the same....let's get 5 or 6. Naive maybe, but we live by the sword and die by the sword and it finally caught up with us.

I am so gutted though. Hardly slept last night. In shock tbh.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

No we aren't. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Progress is not taking one step at a time. It's also about consolidating said taken step and making it the benchmark and building on it. We don't know what signings we will make and who we'll have playing for us come August. Moreover, we will be playing at least 30% extra games next season and that will bring its own headaches in.

Personally even next season, my expectation would be retaining a top four spot and qualifying from the CL group stages. Probably a domestic good cup run thrown in or go to the QF/Semis in the CL. Ground your expectations for now at least.

The fact is we have still taken the title race to the final game of the season. Yes it is sickening that it ended like it did with the slip last week and then last night. I just hope last night was a big wake up call to Rodgers to sort the defence out and also get a new defensive coach in.

Back in the CL will do for me

Think the defence is OK. We just need to reign in a bit in games at times. Defence was immaculate for the most part of the game.
          Are we winning?

            Some random thoughts -
            1. Coutinho sub changed the game, he let their lad past him too easy for the 1st and on the 2nd goal he put in a half arsed tackle instead of taking the yellow then and this is far worse in my eyes 6 players who started the game and had already played 80 minutes caught him up and ran past him trying to get back and defend.
            2. Moses missed an open goal at 3-3, had he scored (which he should have) then we wouldn't be micro analysing the defending.
            3. We missed Henderson, badly.
            4. Didn't like the tone of Carra's post match analysis, all this we lacked a leader bollocks and digging out Sakho.
Sounded to me like he was saying we'd have won if he was still playing, Skrtel is the senior centre back in that partnership not Sakho. Carra also played alongside Skrtel for 4 or 5 years and his job as vice captain would have included passing on leadership skills and positional play etc...

            Clearly he failed.

            Mignolet 27, Flanno 21, Sakho 24, Henderson 23, Sterling 19, Coutinho 21, Allen 24, Sturridge 24, Suarez 27.

Look at the age of most of our players, people who think this season is a one off are kidding themselves, we're only going to get better.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I'm not getting ahead of myself, I just think there is plenty of room for optimism. Our squad will grow much stronger next season so the addition of European football won't be too much of a problem. I agree though that we need to make good signings in the summer. That is key, but judging by the way Rodgers is learning from mistakes, I think he'll finally get it right in the transfer market too (Other than Coutinho and Sturridge, we haven't made any great signings so far).

Allen is a great signing too who's been dogged by niggling injuries. He's a little terrier that I love and that fits well in the system. The much much improved Henderson is also a bit a like a new signing.

We do need to add quality players though. Be it younger or experienced players. We need quality now to rotate and go and play well week in week out.

Probably been said by dozens already but I'd just like to say **** you Mark Clattenburg, you cunt. We weren't getting anything off him after he gave us those three at Old Trafford. He wouldn't want anyone thinking he was biased by giving us blatant penalties. ****house.

I don't think ultimately Clattenburg cost us the game last night. The penalty incidents were all before we went three up (I think?) but you're right he was awful and gave us nothing. Two of those were nailed on and the third should be really but you rarely seen them given (which Skrtel is thankful for ).

Just seen this from Didi Hamann:

"The partnership between Skrtel and Sakho concedes an awful lot of goals, so this is an area they need to look at."
Why does Hamann think us conceding goals is down to just two players?

We need to think about our goalkeeper, our centre back pairing of the future, a left back, a couple of midfield players who are energetic and creative, and some depth up front.

I'm excited about what the summer brings. I know I've been a miserable ****er on these forums, but that was the pressure and tension of a title race talking. Deep down I was beside myself with amazement that we were so close.

Gave us **** all. Before we conceded, think it was the second, Gerrard should have had a peno. Not even mentionning the one Johnson should have got.

They are just bad together. Stats say it too. Neither of them offer any composure. Both would be great partnering a "leader", an influential defender of the Hyypia/Agger ilk.

No I agree...but it's not *just* down to them. The way we play - and especially last night when we were going bananas - leaves them exposed almost all of the time. Cahill and Terry look great because they are protected all around them.

Centre backs are all about partnerships and they don't look a good one, sure. But to just point the finger at solely those two stinks IMO.

I've had to come to work on the tram because of last night's mind bleach but it hasn't worked. I've hardly slept, can't stand up straight ... I'm just moping. I'm almost insure whether I'll be able to force myself off at my stop.

I felt every emotion possible in those 90 minutes ... I'm wiped out.
