We had to be realistic and look at the probabilities. Expecting us to win 5-0 + against Crystal Palace and Newcastle, especially with the pressure of a title race factored in, wasn't right.

That's inexperience and a lack of know how on how to manage the game.
But weve done similar things all season and have managed to win

Even recently we batter City first half then concede 2 and nick a goal against the run of play to win it

Against Norwich we go 2 up and only manage to win 4-3

I dont think its just inexperience and game management its how we play we have for the most part been open all season

I would personally like to see us condense our play a bit, as at times I feel we are too strung out and without that compactness you will always be more susceptible to counter attacks and conceeding goals

It's an indictment to the way we play I'm afraid. We could have done better managing games, and that is not just down to the defence.
          Are we winning?

I agree with the first point

I'm none too convinced its game management though as I do think the length of our game is an issue the bulk of that is down to defending and defenders imo

You're right Lec and I've made this point numerous times before, with our full backs pushed on both our centre backs have to be able to defend 1 v 1.
I think Sakho can do that, Skrtel, Toure and Agger can't so as a consequence we drop deeper (negating the space in behind) meaning our team is very stretched.

Buy a right sided centre back who is quick and our defence automatically pushes 5-10 yards higher.

Really wish we had a player of Xabi's ilk & temprament to control games & calm the rest of the team.
                3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I'm wondering if Ilori can do this, having watched the odd game of his at Grenada the lad catches pigeons hes that quick

But it takes more than just having the pace there has to be some leadership encouraging the players to squeeze the play.

I've said it myself before and I agree with that. A look at us this season clearly shows that our main issue is how the team is set up. It's totally built around getting the best out of our attacking players. That's THE main reason for us being dragged back into games.

I think the second main reason is fatigue. Mental & physical. We came flying out the blocks early on last night as has been the case all season. We just can't maintain the pace of it & we drop off. No question if we went into next season with this squad, we'd be ****ed by January. Thankfully, we won't be so no point going on about that.

Finally, the third & final reason would be ability. A leader in that back 4 tells the full backs to get goal side of those wide attacking players for the third goal, and then Gayle doesn't score. I pick out that incident because it's fresh, but our campaign has been littered with mistakes & errors, both individually & collectively.
                    Forwards.......

Again I agree on Ilori, might be a season too soon for him though.
I guess it depends on who we manage to sign but I think Ilori and Sakho is the identified long term partnership.

Fully expect Agger and one of Toure or Skrtel to leave, 1st choice right side centre back to come in, maybe Ilori loaned out to a Championship side or Leicester/Burnley with Wisdom coming back in to provide full back and centre back cover.

If we sign Micah Richards (which would be a great signing imo) then he'd help massively, bags of untapped potential, quick, strong and powerful with a point to prove.

Perfect player for us at either right back or centre back. Is he better than Johnson or Skrtel righ now? maybe not but he's a high quality squad player with the potential to make himself 1st choice at either position.

                        Yep

The lot we have just needed to shut up shop though. Cooler heads and a fall back option when we do have a lead. Sometimes you just have to shut up shop and lock the game away. Our gung ho style has let in so many dodgy goals that come from our defence being massively exposed by our midfield, who have al pushed up. It only takes a deflection or a miscontrolled pass and teams have a break away on us.

Im still seething Bolasie wasn't sent flying the moment he got that ball. Im not sure who it was (maybe Countinho) but he should have sent the cunt flying or at least grabbed hold of him. Take the card for the good of the team FFS.

Theres no excuse for that really. Maybe in the split second he gets by he didnt realise the situation, but when he looked up and saw Johnson laboring after some African thoroughbred with quads the size of a ****ing car, he should have busted a lung to scythe the mother****er in two. I was furious.

                              I still am.

for every 2 we've scored we've conceded 1. Not great that and I'm not sure It can be put down to the style of play. We aren't exactly gung Ho.

That said at 2-3 both our fullbacks were still up past the half way line
