I think a lot of ppl are forgetting the reason for friendlies. As long as we hit the ground running for our first match , that's all that matters.

How did Coates and Kelly do? Both looked ok against Preston and I see we kept a clean sheet while they were on.

Which is correct of course but winning breeds confidence and should help us hit the ground running. We were in exceptional form last season in pre season and it carried on as we know. However in all my years watching Liverpool we've hardly ever had good pre season's results wise. We are usually very hit and miss hence why I'm not arsed watching any of it.

We seldom see slick interplay in PS because so many fringe players or new players are given time to impress. Still I'd love to kick some mediocre clubs arse in PS & get confidence up before the season starts. Either way I won't write too much into it.

Agreed, shame we don't play any mediocre sides! We have tough tests all the way through, if we do well it'll inspire us, if we don't it may harm confidence.

A late deflected goal gifts Roma a 1-0 win at the iconic Fenway Park in Boston...

Liverpool's US tour began in defeat overnight as Roma inflicted their second pre-season defeat in three matches.

Despite previous speculation that fans would see a first glimpse of exciting new signings Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana, they instead had to be content with a first summer outing for Jordan Henderson.

With the majority of the World Cup contingent still absent, the line-up again consisted largely of a mixture of squad and youth team players with some, such as Uruguayan centre-back Sebastian Coates, presumably selected with one eye on finding a buyer.

The encounter, which forms part of the International Champions Cup, proved to be a largely forgettable occasion in truth, despite the stunning backdrop, with openings at a premium throughout.

The first half in particular was a disappointment from Liverpool's perspective with veteran Italian forward Francesco Totti missing the best two chances.

One of which, from 6 yards, came after an incisive move involving Radja Nainggolan and Ashley Cole had opened Brendan Rodgers' side up.

There was further concern for the English side when Fabio Borini, playing against his former club, left the field with a shoulder injury after just 12 minutes.

The Italian international, who is still mulling over a £14m move to Sunderland, looked in some discomfort and was quickly replaced by Emre Can.

Thankfully, quotes from Rodgers after the final whistle suggested the problem isn't too serious.

"It's probably not as bad as first thought," commented the 41-year-old to reporters. "He's had problems in the past with his shoulders but he has only bruised it.

"He will miss a few days and won't train now for the remainder of our stay in Boston but it will only be a matter of days before he's back training and playing again.

"Regards his future, we will see. He's still a Liverpool player."

Philippe Coutinho, not for the first time this pre-season, looked the most likely to fashion something for the Merseysiders, whilst Rickie Lambert also produced some neat touches.

The duo came close to opening the scoring on a couple of occasions during an improved second half showing but failed to find a way past Lukasz Skorupski.

A host of youngsters soon entered the fray, including Swedish forward Kristoffer Peterson, who already has two goals to his name this summer, and 16-year-old midfielder Adam Phillips.

Liverpool, who had looked the most likely to score for a spell, were undone at the death when a scrappy volley from Mario Borriello deflected off Daniel Agger and past Brad Jones.

Despite the outcome, Rodgers believes preparations for the new campaign took another important step forward.

"I thought it was a perfect game at this stage of our preparation," reflected the Northern Irishman. "It's one of a number of good games we've got coming up which are going to sharpen us up for the start of the season.

"The most important result for me is the first game of the season. You could easily play friendlies that see you win every game and you don't find out anything.

"We have got a real tough set of fixtures in pre-season. We've got a great tour here and then we go back to play Borussia Dortmund. We are pitching ourselves in at a real good level to get a good gauge.

"The most important objective is to ensure we're in good physical condition for our first game of the season against Southampton. And that technically and tactically we will have warmed up all the ideas that have made us so successful."

The club's next chance to fine-tune comes on Sunday when they face Olympiacos in Chicago.
