I like that our pre season fixtures are against very strong opposition. The first few pre season games are always irrelevant.. just fitness builders. As we progress though especially in the last two games, think they Milan & Dortmund... we'll start to see what Rodgers thinks is the starting side vs Southampton.

Always good to win a few pre season for confidence, although if we don't i wouldn't read too much into it. Aspas & Voronin bought looked like world beaters during the pre season... so i don't think i'll ever read too much into any pre season ever again!

Ahh the Crow. Now those were the days. Fav moment was his nonchalant flick to Gerrard in the CL match that we won 8-0.

Some highlights - not great tbh but better than noting

Does anyone honestly think that Kelly has a future at LFC?

            No.

And I thought Coates played very well. He placed his defensive headers well, twinkle toed his way out of tight situations admirably and rarely hoofed the ball.

I'd like to see him become a dependable squad player. He's not exactly a **** player based on his previous international experience!

If he can get back to the level he was at in Dalglish days then possibly but even still would need to improve further.

                Watched the second half

We started off brightly then tailed off.

Coutinho looked good in the middle but his final ball needs a bit of work. He also needs more movement upfront which should be addressed with Lallana, Sturridge, and Remy. He was playing at a different wavelength to others.

Lucas looks way off fitness. Several of his tackles were rash and mistimed.

Ibe needs atleast a year or two of development before he can make an impact in our first team. He struggled a bit against quality defenses.

Can looked very very promising. Full of industry and power and not afraid to try some tricks on the ball.

Kudos to Peterson. Good cameo after he came on.

Coates looked surprisingly good and assured. Playing for a move I guess.

I doubt Kelly has a future here. His injuries have really affected his development.

We need a leader in the backline. Very poor from Agger for the goal. He turned his head away from the ball.

A bit harsh on Ibe there

I've no doubt he's more than good enough to make an impact for us now, but agree a loan is probably in everyone's best interests this season for his development in the long term.

I think anyone making judgements on players based on these early pre-season games needs to remember they are doing double sessions the day before the game, so are often massively heavy legged and nowhere near their peak.

Not sure why it would be surprising, in my opinion he has always been like that. A really good defender, just a bit clumsy with the ball. It's probably why Rodgers doesn't rate him that much, though I still think he can have a very good career somewhere else.

He's capable of looking great in a casual pre-season game, but once you get him down to the rough and tumble of the Premier League his deficiencies show IMO. He's too mentally soft and too slow of thought for the pace of this league I think.

I don't really agree with that, I think he's looked really good in the PL as well, probably one of our best performers against Man City for example, where he had to replace someone just before the start. The way I see it he has really suffered from not playing regularly, it's hard to show your best form when you feature once every full moon. I just hope he doesn't waste too much time here, with some regular playing experience I can see him develop into a really good Hyypia-style defender.

Kris Petersen. Wasn't on my radar at all. Seems like a good lad.

His technique is pretty good just sometimes he tries too much especially when he attempts long range passes.

I like him but he does exibit ocassional lapses in concentration that unfortunately could turn out to be quite costly, which may explain why BR doesn't seem to be a big fan.

For example, last night in the first half Totti almost scored even though we had 4 defenders in the box and no Roma players there bar Totti who was quite far back and Coates, who was the closest to him, completely lost him and allowed him to take a shot.

He seems like the kind of player Rodgers would like -- pacey and hardworking dribbler who makes good runs.

                                Great interview that, likeable lad.
