In 21 PL seasons the team to finish second has gone on to win the league the following season 10 times. The other 11 times they went backwards, sometimes drastically! We should hopefully hang on to top 4, anything else is a bonus.

What're we thinking then, come the season start it looks like we're gonna play 4-5-1. At the minute I think Henderson Can and Gerrard would be a good midfield, although I imagine Lallana will take the place of Can.

I personally would like us to stick with two up top, with the 4 in midfield, I think as a team that deffo plays too our strength, there's been times (and I know it's only pre-season) where we've been struggling to get our forwards into the game, which I think is a result of our formation.

That's why I think another two(!) strikers are important, with one at the very least being able to hold his own with Sturridge.

I am also starting to worry a wee bit about Johnson again I know it's pre-season but it seems that he's brought his late season form into that start of this tour. Does not bode well for when the season starts.

Would be my team of choice with the current crop vs Southampton(obviously with the new forward lad added in, if not probably give Sterling a shout slightly behind Sturridge then Markovic on the wing. It's nice to have a wee bit of depth.

Oh come on, we all listen to muppets at some point, it's unavoidable, doesn't mean they are right or that we have to agree with them, but it's becoming a common theme, when asked, muppets and non muppets seem to be tipping us to miss out.
