Didn't see yesterday's game (only the highlights) but really encouraged by what people are saying about our performance. Especially in key areas and regarding leadership. Our squad is definitely better and our new players sound 'whelming' Still think we need a new striker as backup for Sturridge.

Tough season ahead but think we'll make top four - just above Utd

Great team performance yesterday with some stand out performers such as Lovren, Gerrard and Coutinho.

Mignolet was a lot more vocal than I've seen before which bodes well. Did well when needed. Composed throughout. 7 out of 10.

Manquillo looks an excellent player rather than just a good prospect. Good first touch, real pace, good on the ball, not afraid to take on the opposing left back and get to the by line. Very impressive for a 20 year old making his debut infront of a full house at Anfield. 8

Johnson had a good game which is rare lately and needs to keep it up. Looks better at left back for some reason. Looked like he was playing with point to prove. Maybe its the increased competition or new contract he's after. No arguments if he plays like this consistentyly. 7.5

Skrtel was OK but had a couple of jittery moments. Partnership with Lovren could develop into something solid. He'll be in ahead of Sakho. 7

Lovren was ace, very accomplished in the art of defending. Lead the back line, got us pushing out when needed and an aggressive, pro active defender. Excellent on the ball too. Didn't put a foot wrong all game. Exactly what we've been crying out for in terms of the type of defensive leader we've been lacking since Carra. Excellent header for his goal. 8.5

Gerrard was his usual brilliant self. The best quarterback in Europe. 8.5

Can was decent, quietly efficient and seems to fit into the team well. Good tactical intelligence for a 20 year old. Astute buy. 7

Henderson looks like a proper top class midfielder now with many qualities. Box to box, showed his engine, passing was good, helped Manquillo a fair bit showing his leadership qualities, scored a goal with a run into space. Another player who has that game intelligence, composure and burning desire to win. 8

Coutinho back to his very best. Best player on the park. Touch, movement, passing range, assist and a goal. PL watch out. 9

Sterling had a good game too, always on the front foot, committing defenders. Must be a real nightmare to play against. Some of his passes didn't come off but what a talent we have here. 7.5

Sturridge gave the Dortmund defence loads of problems with his movement, tricks and pace in behind and down the channels. Lead the line brilliantly and showed his skill and flair with that superb finish. 7.5

The team as a whole looked well balanced and everyone knew their job with threat coming from all over.

i heard it finished 2-1 with lambert getting both goals.

IMO this was an excellent pre-season and I think it does wonders for the players and the fans to participate in friendly cups against relatively strong opposition. Finishing against Dortmund at home was also a nice touch and I correct me if I'm wrong but I think we pounded a team similar to the one that pounded Munchen in the supercup?

Anyway best pre-season I can remember really, in terms of it being at least mildly interesting.

I heard that a similar pre season tournament is being planned for Melbourne Australia next year. Us & the scum were mentioned but not sure who else. I'm there if it goes ahead.

These "high profile" friendly tournaments are the norm for pre-season these days. It's all about raking in as much revenue as possible.

Having high quality matches like that would be good for showcasing the sport to the masses over here. LFC & scum got good ratings last year & we packed 95k fans into the MCG. More matches means more fans get to see us play.

It'll be an Asian tour next summer - they'll alternator between there and USA each summer from now on.
