The best youth goalie we've had, probably ever, I think he's got a serious shot at playing for the first team in a few years.

Unbeliavbly confident and intelligent for his age, AND he does some actual goalkeeping when he plays.

Shamel is a striker isn't he?

The Welsh guy is Danny Ward (getting some mixed notices on the Huddersfield Town forums)

Liverpool U23 are filling in the gap in the league schedule with four friendlies.

                from the offie

Sheyi Ojo netted twice as Liverpool U23s beat Chinese side Hangzhou Greentown FC 5-1 in a friendly encounter at the Academy on Friday.

The 19-year-old looked sharp as he played for an hour.

Jack Dunn, who recently returned from a loan spell at Morecambe, also scored twice while the summer recruit from Bolton Wanderers Nathan Phillips scored his first goal for the club.

Reflecting on the game, U23s coach Mike Garrity told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was nice to welcome Hangzhou Greentown FC to the Academy and it was a decent game.

"It was good to see Sheyi get another 60 minutes under his belt and nice for Nathan to score his first goal for us.

"It was good to see Jack score twice as well and it was a good exercise for us."

Liverpool U23s: Firth, K Lewis (Brannagan), Maguire (Driscoll-Glennon), Brewitt, Whelan, N Phillips, M Gomes, Brimmer, Lennon, Virtue, Ojo (Dunn).
Liverpool U23s continued their festive friendly programme with a 2-1 win over Chester FC on Tuesday afternoon.

The young Reds, who defeated Hangzhou Greentown 5-1 on Friday and will take on Wigan Athletic and Bangor City before resuming their Premier League 2 campaign on January 9, came from behind to earn another victory at the Deva Stadium.

A Harry Wilson penalty and Cameron Brannagan's fine curler did the damage for Mike Garrity and Tim Jenkins' team, cancelling out Tomi Adeloye's header.

After their recent first-team involvement, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ovie Ejaria and Ben Woodburn returned to the fold in Cheshire.

There were also starts for Joe Gomez and Sheyi Ojo as they stepped up their recovery from their respective injury lay-offs.

Despite naming a strong starting line-up, the visitors got little joy out of Chester in the first half, with home goalkeeper Liam Roberts producing strong saves from Wilson and Ojo to keep the sides on terms.

The Walsall loanee repeated the trick at the start of the second period as Ojo and Woodburn both went close and, in the 55th minute, Chester made the most of those let-offs as Adeloye headed home a cross from Jamie Morgan.

Liverpool subsequently rallied, and had the chance to level things up when Ojo was brought down in the box - Wilson making no mistake from the spot.

Cameron Brannagan then completed the turnaround by curling brilliantly home from 20 yards.

Reflecting on the result, Garrity said: "We approached the game in a really positive manner and we applied ourselves really, really well.

"After having large amounts of possession, they scored against the run of play really. But we responded well and took control of the game from there.

"Sometimes when you play friendlies, it's a mental challenge more than anything, but they were all mentally really strong and their endeavour was really good."

Remember reading when we signed him, lots saying he was destined to be in the first team.

                  Already looks better than Karius

Just had a quick gander at the U23 friendly against Bangor City (0-6 to us). Harry Wilson looked very impressive, at the heart of everything and took a couple of goals. He doesn't seem to be growing though and you have to wonder about his lack of pace at the top level.

Those who still watch the youngsters is there any chance Wilson, Ojo and Branno will start in the EFL cup this Sunday? I really want us to rest every single first teamer we have (except Can).

Our youngsters have played lower division sides before and stood out. No reason they can't do a job on Plymouth (how good are they anyway?)
                        One tit for another.

I'd definitely like to see all three of them playing if fit. Plymouth are doing well and it would be a really good test and frankly we could well afford to be out of this one anyway.

Liverpool Academy striker Brooks Lennon is set to return to Real Salt Lake on loan.

The 19-year-old frontman is expected to spend the 2017 campaign with the Major League Soccer outfit in his homeland.

Liverpool are prepared to sanction the temporary exit of the USA Under-20s international, who is under contract with the Reds until the summer of 2018.

Lennon signed for Liverpool from Real Salt Lake in July 2015 after the club finally found a solution to work permit issues.

He went on to impress for the Reds’ under-18s before progressing to the under-23s squad.

Lennon has yet to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad but Liverpool hope the chance to play regular first-team football in the MLS will boost his development further.
