I haven’t seen a lot of him but Wright looks like he’s got a lot of potential and was wanted but quite a few other top teams. I think Slot is being a bit careful with players like Rio. I’ve seen him talk about giving him days off and the overtraining of others. We’ve seen so many struggle with injuries I think they’re more being a bit careful with them rather than not playing them. At least I hope that’s the case from what has been said.
If he’s not going to use Rio or Trey from time to time I’d rather he rotated the benched youth so they can play at least 45 mins every other week with the 21’s otherwise we’re stifling their progress.

It was initially expected that Figueroa might go on loan during the winter transfer window but the forward ended up staying put. That may have to do with his contract situation as his current terms are due to expire in summer 2026.

We need to get Figeuroa a new contract pronto.

Someone at the club is listening to you SB.

Rio and Nyoni both playing for the u-21’s again.

Nyoni with an assist and a goal, Rio with a goal and Wright has scored again. 3-2 at halftime.

            Yep about time hey.

⚽️ Rio Ngumoha, Trey Nyoni, Kieran Morrison and Will Wright were all on the scoresheet as #LFC Under-21s came from behind to win 4-3 against West Bromwich Albion.

I wonder if Wright will get some time on the bench soon as cover for Hugo. He’s had a decent amount of time back from injury which is why he probably hasn’t been an option. He’s scoring goals regularly.

Yeah I’m not sure Slot will trust him for that at this stage. We’ve got Gakpo & Chiesa who can fill in down the middle ahead of him plus Rio played more centrally at times in Preseason. Just watched the highlights from today’s match & Rio & Trey were standouts.

Nyoni playing for the U-21’s again tonight. No Rio.

2-0 at halftime away from home. They seem to be in good form right now. Especially Morrison he’s got a goal and an assist.

3-0 it finished. I look forward to watching the highlights later.

Here’s a match report I found on FB

U21s match report: Kieran Morrison scores twice in Liverpool win at Forest

Kieran Morrison scored twice and provided an assist as Liverpool U21s secured a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in Premier League 2.

Morrison struck a brace at Loughborough University Stadium, while he helped set up Noah Adekoya, who netted his first goal for the Reds.

Rob Page made one change for the trip to for the Friday night fixture as Tommy Pilling stepped into the line-up.

It was the hosts who signalled the first danger in the final third as Lamin Sillah dragged a shot wide inside the area.

Liverpool, though, were the team to open the scoring with their first chance of the contest after winning a free kick 20 yards out after 10 minutes of play.

Morrison's effort at the dead ball was swung over the wall and beat goalkeeper George Murray-Jones for pace as the ball found the back of the net in impressive fashion.

Sillah again went close for Forest, drilling an opening wide after a controlled touch inside the area.

The Reds then added to the scoreline in clinical fashion with Morrison again playing a role, delivering an inviting ball to the back post.

Adekoya broke free from his marker and swept home a well-placed volley inside the six-yard box at the first time of asking.

Forest ended the half with late pressure, though were unable to get themselves on the scoresheet, seeing James Sinclair and Kalum Thompson go close.

Following the interval, Liverpool threatened in their search for a third goal of the night.

Morrison slipped Calvin Ramsay into the box on the right, though the full-back saw his low drive saved by the goalkeeper's legs.

Trey Nyoni then struck the side netting after Kyle Kelly and Trent Kone-Doherty combined during a quick free kick to open up the chance.

A short while later, Morrison broke into the box on the right, driving past the defence to fire a shot inches past the far post.

The attacker again posed a threat, this time delivering a dipping ball across the area from the right side, though his cross was just ahead of Will Wright's run.

He wasn't to be denied a second of the match, however, as he found the back of the net once more direct from a corner ball.

Morrison's delivery from the right evaded everyone and curled into the back of the net without a touch, putting the exclamation point on victory and helping move Liverpool to seven games unbeaten in the division.

                      Team news

Liverpool U21s: Pecsi, Ramsay (Davidson, 62), Pinnington, Adekoya, Ewing, Kelly (Onanuga, 79), Morrison (Pitt, 85), Pilling, Nyoni (Laffey, 62), Kone-Doherty, W. Wright.

                      Subs: Poytress.

Jayden Danns has made a significant step in his rehabilitation from a long-term hamstring injury by returning to training with Liverpool under-21s.

The 20-year-old striker, who made his first-team debut two years ago, has been absent since suffering the damage while playing for the U21s at Ipswich Town in September.

The youngster recently returned to working on the grass, and has now been given the green light to step up his recovery having been photographed in team training with Rob Page's squad ahead of Sunday's Premier League 2 visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot revealed last month Danns would have had minutes with the first team during the recent period had he been available.

He must have torn the hamstring off the bone to be out that long with a hammy. Even that's only 3-4mths generally for an Aussie rules player.

I genuinely wonder what our coaching and fitness staff do to these young lads the amount of crazy injuries we get at youth level.

It’d be interesting to see the difference in intensity for training sessions for the 21’s to the 1st team for example. I remember reading that Rio gets more days off to manage his workload but is that only a new thing to combat the injuries other youth players have suffered?

Looks like Trent Koné-Doherty is off to Molde.

The club offered him a new deal but he has been offered first team football there. He’s not getting that here. He’s nearly 20 and is well behind Rio. Makes sense for him to leave.

But it’s also interesting that Molde is his likely destination.

I think I’ve fallen into the usual trap of rating our younger players higher than I should. I don’t seem to learn. How many next one to break through have we had and I don’t think any of them have made it to the top level.

The level you have to be at to even make it as a squad player is massive. You can look at players like Williams at Forest but he wouldn’t have developed like he did staying at Liverpool as a squad player and probably wasn’t good enough for that role back then.

Is there a player that left as a youngster and you can look at and think what if.
