Cracking atmosphere today. Some good performances but Dortmund were relatively accomodating. Lovren did well but Skrtel's headless chicken defending left some huge gaps in the first half which will get punished in the Prem.

Cheers for the highlights link. Some very nice play but the highlight for me was Sturridge pretending to claim the second and Lovren's face.

Just got in from the game. What a great display that was. In no particular order....

Lovren....a Captain right now, what debut. So impressed.

Manquillo....looks a very exciting prospect. Younger than Arnhem and what a solid debut.

              Skrtel.....needs Dejan!

GJ....far better at left back and had a good game tbf

Sturridge, Coutinho and Sterling.....ballers...going to cause mayhem this season.

Special mention to Klopp....the guy just stood on the halfway line watching us warm up....hahaha what a legend. Did not give a **** about his team warming up behind him. Love the guy, what a character!

We are going to surprise a lot of people again this year again.

Tradition: Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp reaches up to touch the Anfield sign before heading on to the pitch.

Studgey's suggested he'd got a touch on the ball I'm betting.

We looked good and that's all that counts. Dortmund have valid excuses for being poor & you can guarantee they'd be a far tougher prospect if we played them in the CL.

But we looked sharp, fit & hungry. We weren't going for the kill or busting a gut either ourselves after getting an early two goal cushion, but it was exactly what was needed after a defeat to the Mancs had some of the fan base in a blind panic.

Good early promise from all the debutants, Lovren in particular. Can looked solid, but unspectacular. Manquillo played like a young kid, little too desperate to win the ball.
                          Forwards.......

Apart from Reus and Hummels, what excuses did they have for being poor?

well failing to replace lewandowski could be one of them. plus gundogan had such influence on their game last season that their season practically ended when he got injured halfway through

to be honest i think they only had about 4 or 5 of the players that would make their strongest team..... however, we played excellent football. If Coutinho and Sterling could develop the shooting aspect of their game, then both could be player of the year candidates.

I was sayign to my brother at the game with me, it is the strenght in depth that looks great now - when you consider that we brought on Lucas and Joe Allen in midfield positions, had Sakho and Agger not even on the pitch (although granted agger may leave) and also still have Markovic and Lallana to come back into the group, then it looks very very strong. If we add Moreno then that would be a huge bonus as well. I like how Rodgers has developed the squad as well - we have about 18 players now who all think that they should play every week - hopefully that is the catalyst for continuous improvement on an individual level for each player and coupled with a good attitude if they are not playing. A bit like Man United about 10 years ago - every time a sub came on, he would play very well and that in turn kept the first teamer on their toes as well. As long as the overall team morale is good then that should be very powerful stuff for the group. If Sturridge or Mignolet got injured though, then we would be in the ****. Big time.

I thought that Manquillo looked okay - no more, no less. There were times when Gerrard looked like he was giving him a bit of a bollocking (although it was probably just a Huyton form of encouragement!) for being too deep but he is only a young fella who has just joined the group. If he has a tactical brain, then he could have all the attributes to be a very good player.

I would get rid of Jose Enrique.
