even though moreno is a brain fart with no sense of whats going on around or behind him, we were still very vulnerable to the diagonal ball and counter attack even when he wasnt in the team.
i agree we do need to be playing a proper dm so if a CB goes out wide we have someone who can cover the late runners who come into the empty space in the middle.

moreno is **** defensively, and even though he has pace and occasionally delivers a decent cross he often just runs down a blind alley.
he would make a decent winger in another team, but not here. please.

Its not the fact he can get caught going up. His defending is poor when he's actually in a defensive position, often going to ground too early or showing the winger space which he can't then make up, etc. Yes he made some crucial interventions too but they were exceptions among generally poor understanding of the FB role.

TAA made mistakes too, not least for the goal, but he has age on his side so can be forgiven.

If your fullback is pressing the opposition GK about 10mins into the game you're going to have problems. And he comes out with tackles the like I haven't seen in nearly 30years of playing football. It was time to ship him on last year, I've no ****ing idea what he's still doing in the team.

Solid!? They did a half time analysis of Moreno and he was caught out about 6 times .... that was just the first half. This happens every single game he plays, he has zero awareness of what is around him. He reminds me of a kid running around chasing bubbles.

He is an absolute liability. Was the cause of dozens of goals last season and dozens of goals the season previous and dozens of goals the season before. he is not going to change, we need better... much , much better.

To be fair he barely kicked a ball for us last season.

All jokes aside he's rubbish, sick of talking about his mistakes every season...it's depressing.

But we seem to think that it's unfair to judge someone without them having had a run of games, unless it's a defender e.g moreno and klavan

Half time analysis by Dean Saunders and Steve McManaman?

I was looking at the shape of our back four in that same game and for the times I was observing it, I noticed that it kept its shape very well and was something they had obviously worked on and Moreno was pretty good at it as well.

Our problem is in offensive situations. We commit out full backs to provide width and we need people to fill those gaps. It's as much his responsibility as is the team to rectify these issues when he is venturing so far forward. As I've said, the problems we have defensively are a direct result of us being an attacking side and we will have to live with lapses time and again.

Ask any team playing us if they can at will try and play an expansive game against us and most of them will say not a ****ing chance, because we will exploit them and Moreno's style is very important in that. Compare the moans I've witnessed when Milner is in that position and slows down the play going forward.

Some you lose some you gain. It's about the balance. Alway.
                          Are we winning?

No by Souness, Lennon & Kerr. I watched Moreno with Sevilla and he's playing the exact same way he was then as he is now & making the exact same mistakes. IThe things I was on page 2 of this thread are still the same things I think about him now. Regards of system or setup, the guy has zero game intelligence or awareness of what is around him. He goes when he should stay, he tackles and commits when he should just stand, he vacates when he just hold the line. he's a lost cause.

We need a better left full than Moreno, Milner & Robertson. I can't believe after all these years we are still struggling to nail this position down.

Yeah, i'm done talking about Alberto, so i'm moving on to replacements (even though we've signed one).

Benedikt Howedes is apparently available for £18m. Plus points:
                              • He had a successful partnership with Matip at Shalke
                              • Played LB during every game for Germany at the 2014 world cup
                              • Is experienced and can do well across the back line

Harsh! He hasn't played a game for us yet. Hold the criticism until he's had a chance to prove himself. Also, he's had quite a bit of premier league experience for Hull (3 years / 100 games). I'd say he's well capable of playing the role once he's fit and ready to go.
