Crowd are quiet.

Seems an odd atmosphere for the first game of the season.

Skrtel and Gerrard have been excellent. Johnson and lovren done well too. Game is boring as ****.

Nervy half. Not convinced by the Lucas-Gerrard-Henderson midfield, seems to be resurfacing some of the old lack of movement issues with this combo.

Good play sterling...almost a 2nd. HT. 1-0 is fair enough to us. Could have been 1-1 but mig saved & tipped it over the bar.
We're ok in possession & defence so far but need to get sterling, cout & sturridge on the ball more often.

We look a little rusty TBH but thats to be expected. At least we have the lead and I'm expecting us to come out second half and kill the game off.

Decent first half, tidy. Excellent work by Henderson in the build-up to the goal. We're being very cautious, it's an almost Rafa-like performance. Probably for the best given it's the first game of the season.

Crowd are ****, we are a bit rusty, new signings looking good, one goal up

Saints are marking Coutinho out of the game and only giving us space on the flanks, and we don't have the full backs to exploit it. We've been more dangerous by being direct rather than taking the short passing approach.

Our passing from the back has been okay but we're missing some creativity in the middle. Lucas feels redundant.

Lovren looks very solid. I'm impressed with him.

Bertrand hacking anyone that goes near him and getting nothing while Manquillo gets booked for one nothing foul was classic Clattenburg.

We look ok without being great.....lovely goal, but our creative options are being squeezed by some excellent work from their midfield and defence.
Skrtel-Lovren looking ok....FBs finding it tough as the half went on, but we're in decent shape to progress on in the second half.

with the CBs and FBs sitting back when we are looking to push out, and gerrard and lucas not pushing too far out it then leaves us with a thin midfield being easily marked and little options to break out other than a gerrard long ball.
lack of midfield options, too many behind the ball when we need bodies in front, the cb then playing the ball around the back inviting our next error.

Everyone gets 15-20mins to hack as much as they like then the first one after that gets booked.

Blimey I thought Johnson had been awful overall, little change from last season. Lovren looking like just what we need.
