It's all about movement off the ball and the ability to beat people with it. Why we thought Balotelli would give us that I have no idea.

Balotelli and Lambert up front looks a bit static to me. All of the movement would need to be via Sterling and Coutinho......

Yes, he seemed very lethargic on Saturday. Hard to know how he'll work out. Didn't seem to have much pace but then didn't have much to work with. Had a chance at a couple of headers but other players ballsed it up for him by getting in the way Maybe just not used to playing up front on his own for us as yet? Sturridge and him up front will be good though. Think the Italian league is a lot slower so will take time for him to adapt. Fingers crossed!

Gerrard will definitely start - he said he retired from England duty so that he could play the CL games.

          ----------------------------- Mignolet -----------------------------

          Manquillo --------- Lovren --------- Sakho --------- Moreno

          ----------------------------- Gerrard -----------------------------

          ------------------- Henderson ------ Coutinho -------------------

          ------- Sterling ------------ Balotelli ----------- Lallana ---------

Can't see Rodgers starting Lambert and Balotelli together, there is not enough movement. If he was to play a diamond he'd either play Sterling up top or Borini, which I can't see happening as he clearly doesn't rate Borini and Sterling is so effective in the diamond. The only reason I'd go 4-3-3 as opposed to the diamond would be the fact that Lucas and Gerrard would probably both have to play, and we all know what it's like when they play together. The only time Lambert would start would be to drop Coutinho and move Lallana back.

I've changed my mind, I'd like to see Lallana and Lambert playing off each other and see if they can replicate that understanding they had at Southampton.

            -------------- Mignolet
            Manquillo -- Lovren -- Sakho -- Moreno
            -------------- Gerrard
            -------- Henderson
            -- Sterling ----- Lallana -- Coutinho
            -------------- Lambert

            SUBS:

            Jones
            Enrique
            Toure
            Lucas
            Markovic
            Borini
            Balotelli

Skrtel back in training so he might come in.

I should be excited but I still feel quite flat after Saturday's lack of ambition.

I know mate. I feel exactly the same. The Villa game was such a disappointment - not the result so much, but how we played. We looked devoid of ideas and it has left me quite flat too.

BR: Martin Skrtel joined the group yesterday, he’s working hard but won’t be back from injury yet. He should be back for West Ham.

Would most of you start both Lambert and Balotelli then?

I'm slightly uncomfortable starting two forwards who've never yet scored a goal for us, although they have to start somewhere I guess. This could be the game for one or both of them to get off the mark.

Think we work better with 2 forwards, and they are our best two.

This is a good a game as any to get off the mark. You would have to put them in a similar bracket to most lower tier prem sides. Not easy, but easier than Villa at the weekend

Would prefer to start with Borini and Balotelli, and have Sterling behind them at the tip of the diamond.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I'm hoping saturdays ****e performance had something to do with this game being in the back of their minds - lets let loose against these ****s

Our second child was supposed to be due yesterday - knowing my luck the little sod will decide to make an appearance tomorrow night & I'll end up missing our first CL game in 5 years!

It's only 1 game as **** as it was, Southampton at home last season was the same (though without the int break). A turd performance after an international break while missing players, meh, forget it, lets smack these cunts all over the gaff.
