Yes he is. Pretty much Carricks entire career he has been the deepest midfielder - right back to when he played at West Ham with Lampard and Joe Cole as his midfield partners.

So if Daniel Sturridge gets injured, our managers preferred formation goes straight out the window?? After spending more than £100m in the summer? If you are right, then that is pathetic player recruitment.

I agree that it is great to have options..... I dont think we will get anywhere fast by changing the personnel too much between games though.

Lambert was the man who we could turn to as a last ditch plan B, coming off the bench to add some muscle in tight games. If you look at all that, it makes sense.

Then the massive error occurs. Remy fails a medical. What now? Panic stations. We can't start a season with Studge & Lambo as are main strikers, whilst Rodgers has already decided that Fabio isn't good enough and £14m is too good to turn down. So what do we do. I can imagine we ask around and the best option we thought available was Mario.

And let's be honest, most of us thought that at £16m he's a bargain. But then, none of us I guess have ever really watched him play the system we wanted him for. Because he seems incapable of doing the job as a lone front man.

Now it's down to Rodgers to find a way of making him fit into that role. I've seen signs of it, but he still looks much better with a partner. The problem is that at the moment none of the strikers we have fit are actually good enough to start with Balo. Which is a shame.
I think Remy could have been a good signing for us - and the way he plays, it would probably have taken less time for him to integrate into the liverpool way. For me losing Remy and then sturridge to injury so soon into the season was a right kick in the stones for Rodgers.

I actually think Balotelli and Sturridge will be able to form a good partnership - mainly because of Sturridges game intelligence but also hopefully because Balotelli works hard to get himself into the ethos of Brendans team.

That's not the same as a 'defensive specialist' though.

Carrick is certainly not a "defensive specialist"

Point already made by others about Carrick.

And on the rest I see up you agree with what I've said on this site in numerous threads. Not getting Remy was the massive set back that has cost us. Not saying he's amazing, but he just suited us perfectly.

Mario hasn't suited us at all, but Rodgers is having the challenge of trying to make him fit. Depends how well Mario can change his game.
            Forwards.......
