Can't understand Rodgers at all at the moment, and I thought I had him worked out. Seems like he's insisting on crab-ball 433 now that Suarez has left and he's damned that system will be our new flavour.Originally posted by Lecter View PostStill don't get why he would look to sign a striker to play in a 2. Then sign Mario who is adept at playing in a 2 and then plays him as a lone striker and continues to persist with that system when it's clearly not working and doesn't look likely to
It's ****ing madness
It's the perfect example of Einsteins definition of madness
Players look clearly uncomfortable with it (Henderson and Sterling being the prime examples) but at least Rodgers has the conviction in his chosen strategy. Could be the end all of him too though. One tit for another.

I did say best quality. He was ditched really.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostThat's not true. Balotelli is on what 150.000 a week? We could easily have spent that and maybe more on a big name, signed fewer players but better. we need to shed that small club thinking, stop thinking about sell-on value and think about on the pitch value. We are constantly trying to be too clever for our own good.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I agree with that, although Rodgers probably thought he'd have 2 and it didn't work out that way. Then he was making do.Originally posted by Lecter View PostIt's not just about quality it's the type of signing as much as anything.
Why attempt to sign strikers who play as part of pairings and then play them as lone strikers
Crazy
I hope that's the way it was anyway.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I don't think they would have come to us, that's the problem. Until we are successful on a consistent basis we won't be able to. This has been going on for a very long time.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostI talking about the amount we are spending on him, we could have brought in a "marquee" signing but we chose not to, IMO.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

Don't think we could not have done better in the summer regarding the strikers.Originally posted by Venton View PostI don't think they would have come to us, that's the problem. I'm interested in who would have been better. I still think that Balotelli is a good striker by the way, I think our system isn't any good for him at the moment.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostDon't think we could not have done better in the summer regarding the strikers.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I wasn't against Balotelli, Rodgers is not using him correctly I think. I'm not a scout but there are loads of players out there, look at Sakho and Valencia for West Ham and Pelle for Southampton, three cheap players who would all have fit us well. I had never seen them in the flesh, bar Valencia at the WC.Originally posted by Venton View PostI'm interested in who would have been better. There are loads of players out there, we just pick the **** ones or are making things too hard on the team by complicating things.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

They would have been if the lack of strength in depth hadn't sent Rodgers on what now seems to be a shopping spree dictated more by 'Zen & the Art of Throwing Enough **** at a Wall that the odd Bit of Sweetcorn Might Stick' rather than by carefully selecting players that accord with how we played last year. He has pissed £120M down the drain and his credibility is shot.Originally posted by Venton View PostTo be fair the best quality strikers aren't in our budget. That's just the way it is.

I agree with everything you said up until the point where you said it was redeemable. I don't think it is.Originally posted by Lecter View PostI think your last sentence is a great description of Brendan. Hits the nail on the head
I am not too worried about how many players we bought most of them look ok or will be ok. My biggest worry is Lovren. It's how you integrate them / introduce them to the team
My major worry is bringing in tons of new players in conjunction with changing the system (which **** up the existing players) and then expecting the new players to play roles they never have before (lonestrikers)
I think he's majorly ****ed it up
It's not beyond being salvaged but it means admitting he's got things wrong and changing back to what worked last season
Every positive we had last season has gone, Suarez gone, sturridge injured, Henderson and sterling look shattered. Gerrard has started this season like he finished the last one. Our settled side has also gone, todays game was so shocking purely because nobody knew what they were supposed to be doing.
For the first 70mins it looked like we were making it up as we went along. This is brendans 3rd year here and by now we should be consolidating and making minor adjustments instead of being in transition yet again.
I hope I'm wrong but today I saw a team in disarray. Something you see when a manager first takes over and usually when a current managers reign comes to and end.
I cant see a way back but I hope I'm wrong.

Wow. How long has he had?
