Those players would have come if we had offered the right money. Etoo is scoring goals.Originally posted by Venton View PostFalcao - no chance.
di Maria - no chance.
Eto'o - just why?
We aren't going to sign them. We have to face that. That's the world class signing bit out of the way.
I agree about buying players who fit the system - but who are they? Again, turning it around, who does fit our system that we've bought? And extrapolate the result - does anyone fit our system right at this moment? Maybe we need to work on the system?
Just dismissing world class.players as not achievable is small time and until we show some ambition in the transfer market we aren't going to win the league.
System was working fine last season.Last edited by captainfog; 01-11-14, 08:50 PM.

I am not saying sack him, I love the style of play he instils when he has the players that get it, I am just extremely annoyed about his haphazard dealings in the transfer market and his persistence with players that do not get his style. I absolutely do not want the man sacked and agree he deserves at least another 2 years, I just wish he would wake up and change things - draft in a defensive coach, drop Balotelli or pair him with another striker, whatever gets things back on track.Originally posted by Venton View PostWow. How long has he had? We came second last year against all the odds.

We'll have to disagree on that first sentence.Originally posted by captainfog View PostThose players would have come if we had offered the right money. Etoo is scoring goals.

On the second we can't compete at the moment because we don't have the money or the kudos. And that's the way it is, bababah...

I agree with you on that. I just think that his style is quite rigid. When it works it's great but it takes a bit of drilling, hence the bad performances. I don't think all these players we have bought are that bad, that's all.Originally posted by scully View PostI am not saying sack him, I love the style of play he instils when he has the players that get it, I am just extremely annoyed about his haphazard dealings in the transfer market and his persistence with players that do not get his style. Couldn't keep my eyes open so went to bed at HT. What I saw was enough to send anyone to sleep.
The team selection was enough to send meto sleep. Not at all impressed with Brendan at present. When the fans sang his name last night night I was hoping they'd add '2 up front please'. Loosing the love of football at present.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Why? I feel our backroom team have a lack of ambition. We should be able to sign big players, Liverpool is a still a big club. Teams with lesser/similar reputations and standing have signed bigger players. In the last few years:Originally posted by Venton View PostFalcao - no chance.

Napoli - Higuain, Albiol
Valencia - Otamendi, Negredo, Rodrigo
Milan - Diego Lopez
Fiorentina - Mario Gomez (not a fan but he was a starter for the German NT and still getting some minutes at Bayern without being a starter)
Sunderland - Giaccherini
QPR - Sandro, Isla and Vargas (all full internationals)
Spurs: Lamela
Wolfsburg: Luis Gustavo and de Bruyne
That's just off the top of my head, there's been plenty of others, but it seems there's an assumption of established or players that are 'almost' there would have no intention of coming to us, if those teams can pick up players like that we should be able to attract the players we need too. Look at Man Utd without CL getting Falcao and Di Maria. If we were one season without CL there'd be the assumption we'd have no chance with those players.
It proves that players will play for lesser teams to earn more money, play in European competition, play in a better league or for a big name club despite poor standing.

Players will go where the money is. As demonstrated by the rise of Chelsea and City. And we definitely had the money. We just spunked over 100 million.Originally posted by Venton View PostWe'll have to disagree on that first sentence.

We did have the money, we just spent it badly. We didn't need Markovic but we spent £20m and whatever £x0k a week he's on. Add that to the striker fund and it would have opened up more options.Originally posted by Venton View PostWe'll have to disagree on that first sentence.
