    Jonathan Woodgate says Middlesbrough must stop Steven Gerrard to stand any chance against Liverpool this weekend.
    The Boro defender believes the Reds have some "phenomenal" players but identified the skipper as the main threat at the Riverside.

    "I know Craig Bellamy well and with the likes of Kuyt and Fowler, Liverpool have got some fantastic talent," said Woodgate.

    "But without doubt, the main man is Steven Gerrard and we have got to stop him.

    "They have not won on the road for a few games now, but they are still one of the best teams in the country and two years ago, they showed they were the best team in Europe.

    "Some of the players are phenomenal. It will be a hard game for us, but we need to make it hard for them also."


    Good on yeah Woody lad, always been a big admirer of the guy, just a pity you aren't guarenteed he'll stay fit for a lengthly period.

    Rafa's also gone and record saying he likes Woody, stays fit this season could you see Rafa looking at him?

      I agree wholeheartedly. He is a dick. He used to go back to his local in middlesboro when he was at leeds and burn wads of £20 notes, get into fights etc. A memeber of the 'do you know who I am?' brigade. And he was very lucky to come out of that gbh charge unscathed....

        The best English CB there is. If he can prove some sort of fitness this season at Boro and Madrid don't want silly money for him he'd be an ideal signing.

          too injury prone, plus he is a pretty thick/or a thug, depending on your viewpoint of that incident in Leeds.

            Buying him would be a massive risk, injury wise. We don't want to end up like the magpies, buying up cripples...

              He's an excellent CB, no doubt. But he is also ridiculously prone to injury, and not worth the risk at all

                Going on purely anecdotal evidence he seems to have matured and become a much less odious person. Not that I like the guy, but without having seen all the evidence from the trial my instinct would be that he deserves a second chance. Still wouldn't like to see him at Liverpool though. I'm still a little uneasy about Bellamy to be honest.

                  Yeah, he does seem to have matured slightly and (apart from his Madrid debut!) has carried that onto the pitch with him

                      Yeah, I get your point about being reformed, everyone deserves a second chance. I was pretty impressed that his spanish is so good and people say that he is calmer now. I'm from that neck of the woods (the north east, not spain) and early reports of him weren't nice...a bit of a bully, always fighting, showing off, making his mouth go. His nickname was village (as in idiot).

                      I wouldn't want him at anfield. Too much of a knob/risk
