    Consider the positives:
The defense looks solid again. That will bring the foundation we need to build on. Skertel, kalo and Lucas were all ace today.

Sterling is a gift and once Sturridge returns he will blossom.

Gerrard looks great at the 70 min mark. What a game he brought today!

I think there is every reason to park the knee jerk and enjoy Xmas. We are getting there ffs
    Another MASSIVE game

Btw, how good was. Gerrard when he came on?

Whilst I wish we could manage without him, since being freed from the deep role he's looked like he's our best player again. Before he was sinking with no support and I think many of us got caught up in thinking he may be in his last season.

Far from it though. The others on the pitch just aren't even close to being as good as he is. I'll also give some Kudos to Raheem. Still needs to deliver more in my book, but he's at the top of the list when it comes to individual performances. I'm less worried about him than I am about the other lot who started the game.
        Forwards.......

Yup how I saw it, never going to go from where we were to tearing teams apart but we do need to work on movement up top.

It's tough to see where the goals will come from at the moment

Shame we couldn't have pushed the boat out for Balotelli & one other. I imagine if Borini had gone we may have got Eto'o as well, who would have been okay.
But surely, at some point last season, someone at the club sat down to write a SWOT anlysis if where we were; and right at the top of the "Threats" list must have been Luis Suarez leaving.

Why was this not planned for?

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

That was always a potential issue & should've been addressed in the summer.
                3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I don't think they're a strong as Sunderland are at the back, but they have a lot of pace in the final third and they will worry us. I think we should start Manquillo & Moreno in that game for the pace, then maybe go with Glen & Enrique at United.

I remember **** dull home games a plenty under houllier and benitez. That was with decent attackers on the pitch. We have Lambert who is doing his best. This is where we are until January or sturridge gets fit. I don't know what people expect to be honest. I keep hearing £120m wasted, that's bull****. Moreno isn't a waste of money. Lallana was always top dollar but over his contract we should get enough out of him. Can looks like £10m well spent. Lovren and Markovic is where it went badly wrong. The latter could yet come good. Stop moaning.

As said, played okay kept the clean sheet but lack movement up front. We seriously lack movement up front to create chances. People start standing still just around the area, no attempts at running in the deep or movement in the area. Best examplified in the overtime perhaps, when Henderson wins the ball and whips in a good cross at first post, and Lambert just stands there looking at the ball going past him! Why doesn't he attack the first post when he can see a cross coming in?

I've seen so many similar situations this season, when people are standing still in the area, or gathering outside the area not knowing what to do.

Still a lot of work to do, but 7 points in a week and 2 clean sheets is positive and we are going forward at least!

I imagine we are always scouting players and always talking to agents. I don't think that ever stops. Its what we employ people for.

But bottom line, you can line up a whole host of targets, but if they aren't interested in joining then there's not a lot you can do. Supposedly we enquired for Cavani, Benzema, Sanchez and others, but they didn't want to come here.

Move away from that group, and who else is out there who'd be a success? Jackson Martinez would have been available, but he's an expensive gamble. Lacazette wanted to stay at Lyon. Not sure how much Doumbia would have cost, but he's another gamble.

2 shots on target all game? Not good enough. Deviated massively from a successful style of football to one that didnt work here when he first tried it.

Borini wont score but his movement and running beyond defenders would allow the likes of Sterling and Coutinho to thrive.

Dont see where we are heading long term really.
