The funny part is Rodgers bemoaning the lack of a "World class" player in Daniel Sturridge, yet last season he repeatedly said he wasn't in that bracket, but had the potential to be there. Suddenly selling Suarez and a failure to replace him has bumped up the ability of Studge.

Amazingly, last year we had 3 strikers in Suarez, Studge & Aspas. And due to him not believing Borini is good enough, we still have three strikers. How was that ever gonna be enough?

I do not think we will ever attract a player of the highest calibre. Even if we were CL regulars we would struggle with that because of our wage restrictions. This has always been a club that makes stars in recent times as opposed to signing them.

We also need to do really well in the Europa, a competition that is rated highly away from England. Rodgers isn't exactly well known but winning that would underline his credentials as a top coach. Tbh, if Rodgers was in trouble, FSG would be best advised to bring back Rafa. His is a name that can attract top players. He ticks all the boxes tbh.
The managerial succession question is a whole other discussion

I get your points about Rafa and my heart says yes but I worry how he would fair at our club. We have a defence that is ****e - sloppy ****e at that and he would have to spend a **** load of money to turn it into a half solid **** (sorry for the **** references!!). Then you have the fans, his appointment would massively divide opinion. I think some fans wouldnt even give him a chance

Klopp & Simeone would be probably high up many peoples lists but would we have a chance of getting them????

Who does that leave who would be worth looking at??

This thread truly is depressing, its almost on a par with that "How to get your legover" thread Slinky started in the general forum

True it was only a few weeks ago that Joe Allen was going to be our saviour

Lacazette is 23, 14 goals in 17 league games, "For my part I have not expressed a desire to leave. It seems obvious to me to stay and continue with this project."

Another issue for me is when Lucas came back in and Gerrard moved further forward, BR said it was because the dynamic of the forward line had changed so no longer needed Gerrard deep. This was a few games ago. The dynamic changed in August when Sturridge got injured. Why didnt Lucas come in then? Balo isnt a Sturridge or Suarez type striker

                      Case in point.

I just can't believe how badly we've fallen. I just checked back to the game last season where we really sent a message, the 5-0 win at Spurs. No Gerrard & no Sturridge, but we were sensational. That went us second & two points off top & was before Rodgers got us playing the diamond with Gerrard as playmaker & the SAS up top.

It was a 433 with Lucas holding and Allen & Henderson either side. On the wings we had Couts & Sterling And Suarez up top. We were all over Spurs that day and it saddens me to think how far we've fallen. I didn't expect the diamond to last due to losing Suarez, but to not even get back to how we ripped teams to pieces prior to that is mind boggling.

The failure to recruit a striker of a half decent level in addition or ahead of Mario & Rickie is a stackable offence alone in my book.

I think the hope was that once Mario was fully fit he would display similar qualities. Strange I know.

The Joe Allen is our saviour nonsense was the worst example of grasping I have seen as a Liverpool fan who has talked to other Liverpool fans.

I honestly couldn't believe what I was reading. He's never been that important to how Liverpool play and it would be a terrible day if someone that ordinary was a key player in a Liverpool squad.

He's a beige footballer who is capable only of getting a 6.5/10 at best. Mediocre.

He's nowhere near as good as beige.

Personally I'd be tempted to play Lazar & Raheem up front with Coutinho behind to thread through balls. Gerrard off the bench late on.

He was a player who knew how Rodgers wants us to play so I think the hope was that another constant from last season would help the team settle. I think as it turns out, the lack of a striker is what has screwed us.
